This morning, while reading a newspaper dated April 1, 2016, I ran across a story that just had to be an April Fool's joke. "You can get paid not to kill someone" read the title. What?

Low and behold, it's a real story about the City of Richmond CA paying criminals to behave. "They began paying Holmes as much as $1,000 a month not to commit another gun crime."

Here is a link to the same story, different title: Cities begin to challenge a bedrock of justice: They’re paying criminals not to kill

Have we been doing it wrong all these years, or is this another anti-gun whack-a-doodle gimmick?

I knew this had to be in N.Y,Mass or Calf.

The criminals should wear ankle monitors and be required to stay in the jurisdiction where the ****** politicians are that put this in play. The voters that put these asshats in office deserve what they get.

No, they should wear neck monitors with det cord in them.

Kind of like "invisible fence", only biased toward preventing recidivism...

Sadly it is true-I passed a sign promising to pay if one kept their doctor's appointments. Breathtaking as it seems, government is now at the point where it is paying people to keep their free doctor's appointments. Not only that, but somebody is paying for he artwork and sign rental for the roadside board on which I saw this advertisement. I feel like I have fallen down the rabbit hole.

Nothing beats the craziness of paying protection money to our enemies the Taliban for the safe passage of US military supplies arriving from ports in Pakistan and trucked by Pakistani's to Afghanistan. When I first heard about this practice 9 years ago, it cost $1000 per truck, but the latest figure mentioned is now $4000.

We deliberately fund the insurgents that we are fighting!!!

Google "pakistani trucking companies pay taliban for safe passage" if your curious.

When I asked my friends husband, an AF Col., who was aware of this, he said it was the most cost effective way.

Maybe that's the answer to all your other examples of gov't craziness, it's the most cost effective way. Sheesh.....Beam me up Scotty...

We read about this stuff, and it could be the seed idea for a movie plot about about an enemy country's agents putting something in our water supplies to make us all stupid and bring about our demise.

Yup... nothing new. In Iraq the "Sunni Awakening" might have been better described as the Sunni Payroll. Of course many years later they would join in with a group called ISIS.

Richmond isn't too far from my old stomping grounds of Walnut Creek. If I could collect SS and get an extra $1k month for being the same law abiding citizen that I am today.... are there any other perks?

Kind of waters down the old philosophy that we will never negotiate with terrorists or kidnappers, and projects a whole new image of America to the world.

The rationale is that it would be cheaper to pay these slugs up to $9k per year to NOT commit crimes than it would be to incarcerate them.

For the life of me I can't seem to grasp that concept.

The cost will be going up.....$9k or $12k a year won't get it......the "slugs" will soon be demanding $15 dollars an hour, just like the burger flippers. When you do the math $15x40(hrs)x52(wks)=$31,200 a year. That will soon be the cost of idiotic,"legal", extortion!! :(

What a sad mess our country continues to devolve into.

Keep in mind that's what I was getting as a skilled IT professional doing PC lifecycle replacements for a contractor at the Cleveland Clinic... and being illegally forced to work unpaid overtime as an hourly worker in the bargain.

I hope all those burger flippers lose their jobs.
