I read on another forum that you can send money without a fee on either end through paypal if you check the "gift" box. Supposedly it has to come straight out of a bank account and if there is a problem, paypal can not help get your money back...but if you use this with people you trust, say here on the forum, I think it could be a viable way to save a little money...anyone every use this?...:)

I do know I continue to get E-mails (my security marks as junk) advising if I don't renew my Pay Pal information, dob, address, etc, they will close my account. I don't have a Pay Pal account.

Skip, I have used the PayPal gift option several times, and it's always worked just fine. My PayPal account is linked into my AMX card not my bank account, so there is no way anyone would have access to my bank account.
The sender is required to pay the normal PayPal fees, but the gift receiver does not pay any fees.

I have heard of sending money as a gift through paypal before. I have done it once, went through no problem. I didnt know you have no buyer protection through a gift transaction, but it makes sense.

I've done it allot. The last time "I" paid the fees. I don't remember having to do that before. Something like $3.20 on a $100 send. Maybe they're on to us.

The “gift” option is for gifts, not payments. I guess it depends how one values their word.

Food for thought there.

I have used the PP gift option to send money to kids. Have not used it in 3-4 months, but it worked fine last time.

My account is not linked to anything. Just some cash lounging in the account, where I sold a book or whatever. Was zero cost when I last used it.

I've used it once & just like -rags-, there was about a 3.2% fee for the sender (me). As stated above, there is no buyer protection so use at your own risk for purchases. I'm not sure how others have avoided the fees - maybe the amount transferred???

I have sold items, accepting Pay Pal as payment...and I have asked that the transaction be either marked as a gift or to have the buyer add 3% to cover fees. Personally, I don't agree with Pay Pal charging fees to both the buyer and seller. If someone is uncomfortable marking the payment as a gift, they can add 3%, or send me a USPS money order. The post office doesn't charge me a fee to cash the money order... ;)

Charges to my PayPal account are billed to my AMX card, so I have the option of disputing any charges; I’ve only had to do this once three or four year ago, with a non-shipper. AMX credited my account for the full amount charged no problems. So there is some buyer protection if you use a credit card.

SNAFU PAYPAL

I had planned to take a PP payment.
The sender goofed the e mail address and now we are in LIMBO. Some stranger has his money.
I am happy to say it was not a lot of money, but still very annoying.
So therefore I will not be doing paypal either way on a forum.
TMA too much aggravation.
