I had similar ?'s. First there are different types of PB, so make sure you get the one intended for firearms. Normally I'm a clp guy, but tried the PB. It seemed to lubricate very well while penetrating deeper & continuing to bring dirt up to the surface longer. When I lube I put it on, let it work for maybe an hour then wipe it off, enough should remain to keep things "lightly lubed" without attracting dirt/dust/sand. I hate to over oil, unless the gun is going to be stored for a long time. Fot maintenance lube a drop or 2 of clp on a q-tip does an entire gun for me.
