Well.....glad I sent the gun back to S&W (on their dime by the way). Was a little hesitant as I am no expert in evaluation of revolvers and thought that my concerns might have been misplaced.
Called today as the gun has been there almost 5 weeks. The gun was being worked by the head of the Performance Center and was sent to the range for a test firing. It failed, although they didn't tell me exactly what "failed" meant. The smith has the gun back on his bench for more work. They did say it has extraction problems which probably explains why the gun did NOT like Winchester Platinum 400gr JHPs (the only factory loads I've tried). They may be putting a new cylinder on the gun.
In any event, with all the attention it seems to be getting, I expect it to be a slicker gun when I get it back. They expect to have it to me by Friday.
Hopefully I can get to the range on Monday to check it out. Don
