I just picked-up the 5906 PC PPC at the S&W Sport Shooting Center store last week. They had one left for sale. The story was this run (circa Spring 2009) was for the Euro Market and a few were left over.

Does anyone have any info on the standard recoil spring weight and where to find recoil springs for light targert competition loads. I emailed S&W, but no resposne. I presume the stock 5906 springs from Wolff are for the 4 inch 5906.

Any info on the Nill grips made for this gun?

My new PC 5960 PPC is very nice. But, I have had many ejection failures with 115 grain FMJ. Time will tell as I break it in.

The Nill grips will require having the frame drilled & tapped if not already done. They are held on with two screws each side simular to 1911s' or 39/952s'. If it is the full length 5" slide then it'll use 645/4500 springs, usually 10 & 12# from the factory, I've used as low as 8 & 9# in my guns with light handloads. Make sure your bushing and rails are well oiled especially at first, don't forget the inside rails in the dust cover.

Use 124 grain rounds, they're typically what works best.

Nill does have grips for this one; just received mine from Germany (two bucks shy of a couple large) - I'll try to snap pics.

Nice find on the last PPC - I would have picked it up myself, just as you did.

The frame is drilled and tapped for grips. Nice grips in the pics! I am thinking model Nills 1458 rather then 147 with a tumb rest. One handed-shooting makes for little sense when God gave me two good hands. Wondering if the fancy Nills are worth it.

Still sighting in and figuring out the Aristicrats. I have a S&W PC 1911, which is very nice. But this PC 5609 PPC is way nicer in the detailed work. SHoots very nice now, even though it is not fully sighted in or broken in. They had one left at the store as of last Monday with 3, 15 round mags. May still be there as it is not Massachusetts approved.

HG, thxs for the info on the springs. Just put 250 factory rounds FMJ thru it, 250 more and I will start using semi-wad 224 grain light loads.

HG thxs for the info about he spring. No can find 645/4500 springs for a 9mm 5 inch barrel. Wolffs Springs had no clue. S&W cust serv had no clue.

Got a clue, I can persue?

Do want! Very nice!

My experience with the Nills vs. S&W plastic:

The contour of the Nill grips is perfect - fills the palm of my hand and lets me have a higher (at least perceived) grip on the frame, compared to the S&W straight back-strap.

Also, the rhomulas checkering bites with just enough tact and it's not painful - kind of like Goldilocks finding the right bed and soup!

Fit is good - care needs to be taken with the supplied screws (I stripped one), and the frame is already drilled/tapped for these.

Finish is perfect.

I'm sure Good-Housekeeping would give them a seal of approval.

Oh my!

Gotta get me some of that ... placing my order for Nills w/o further delay.

Nills grips mounting

How do those grips mount?

I am an old 1911 guy. I am curious about the screws as the original grips have that MSH connector thing.

As I said earlier on the 5900 frames they do require the frame being drilled and tapped. The mainspring is held place with the same kind of adaptor that Hoque uses with their grips.

The S&W part number for 6" PPC9 12 # spring is #24917... but they are on back order as I also have some ordered.

The PPC9 is the exception to this - the frame is already drilled/tapped for the Nill grips (ostensibly, for Hogue as well). Installation is very simple - a couple of minutes and you need to take care, because the included grip screws (from Nill) have a very short thread, so alignment is tricky (but do-able).
