This particular model with the wilson sight is the one that I wanted and actually a forum member sold one a few months back for 1050 or something like that.
That was me. A year ago I had three 945s -- a 5" stainless, a 4" stainless, and a 4" blued (Melonite?). I now only have the 4" blued. The two I sold -- the 5" and 4" stainless -- both sold for around $1100. If a seller wants a quick sale, that seems to be the going market. Once you edge past the $1200'ish mark, I have found the potential for a sale drops off precipitously, which is really unfortunate because these 945s display incredible craftsmanship, on par with any $1600+ custom 1911. But supply-and-demand drives pricing, and there's simply not as much demand for a 945 as there is the 1911. Guess that's why the 945 was unfortunately dropped from S&W production line this year (last year?).
If anyone's looking for a 945, I would strongly urge them to keep on looking...$1599, as the one above is apparently priced, is typical dealer price, but there are lots of deals to be found if you're patient. I wouldn't pay more than $1200 for a 5" model or a 3" model...there's simply too many of those around to choose from and temper the price...but it does sometimes require some patience.
Like any model, there are exceptions, though: namely, the 4" model. The 4" stainless I sold @ around $1100 was probably priced too low; while there are a large number of 5" models floating around, only 250 each of the stainless and blued 4" models were produced in 2000. I should've tacked on another $100 or $150 on it, but <shrug>. I still have the 4" blued 945, though am considering selling it (don't want to, as I love the 945, but still need to unload one more gun to make my motorcycle budget for next year). This one, though, because it's blued (which, in my experience, for some reason makes it more uncommon than the stainless, even though they were both produced in a quantity of 250) and because it's unfired (!), I'll be asking more for it than I did for the stainless.
