Has anyone here recently done, from a defined and reasonable distance, a valid bench rest rifle to rifle shooting comparison of the accuracy of the standard M&P 15-22 and the Performance Center M&P 15-22 rifles? I’ve read several, but not all, forum posts about some differences in the comparative limitations and accuracy of the two rifles; but, the expressions in the posts, from shooters or not, tend to be opinions. Has anyone done recent definitive testing comparing the two rifles?

Has anyone here recently done, from a defined and reasonable distance, a valid bench rest rifle to rifle shooting comparison of the accuracy of the standard M&P 15-22 and the Performance Center M&P 15-22 rifles?

Having read most of the threads the search function turns up I think the answer is no.

A friend has a PC 15-22 and I have 2 threaded barrel 16" non-PC 15-22's. Having shot both (but not formally benching both side by side) I don't think the PC version is appreciably (if any) more accurate and its' "match trigger" isn't worth buying the PC gun for. It's just another trigger (that you paid extra for) you'll want to replace with a better one.

This is kind of an interesting question. The PC 15-22's have been around a long time and one thing I haven't seen is a thread where someone (anyone) brags about (or posts pics of) the great groups they're getting from their PC 15-22.

I think it's been pretty well established the "std" version 15-22 is a 3 MOA gun but the PC 15-22 owners seem to have remained amazingly silent about their guns' performance.

I like mine and it helps I got it at a great price.

If I feed it quality match ammo it will shoot circles around my other standard 15-22s using the same ammo. Mine will shoot an inch with RWS or Eley Target at 50 yards. Not bolt action accuracy, but I never expected it.

If I feed it bulk ammo, all the 15-22s I have shoot the same. Mine PC really shines when fed right.

Save $200 and buy the Sport model.

I had a standard model and foolishly sold it. It was plenty accurate for plinking. That's what the gun was made for.

Flash forward a couple years. I just bought a PC model. Primarily because I had the money and didn't mind spending extra. The two stage trigger is just OK. You would think that S&W would put a better trigger in the gun to match the match grade chamber and barrel. But they didn't. The trigger isn't much better than the standard. I put a $200 Elftmann drop in trigger in it and it's light years better. So know I have an $800 plinker.

The other add ons that come with the PC are nice but does a guy REALLY need them over the standard model? I say no. The standard has everything you need to burn through 22 ammo and have fun doing it.

With the money you save buy a red dot sight and some extra mags and enjoy.

I've long ago gave up the notion of "need" when it comes to recreational rimfire shooting. :D

Nothing but glowing remarks about the fun I've had with my 15-22 over the past 7 years plinking at soda cans and such. But if someone wants a black rifle platform that shoots more accurately than the standard 15-22 I would simply suggest there are other options than the 15-22 PC.

15-22 and accurate don't seem to go well together in a sentence...

Does it need to be a "black rifle platform"? I just won a Remington 597, an 80877 16.5" HB with 5R rifling. They're supposed to be tack drivers. It's probably not something I would have bought but I'm going to keep it and play with it. Stock is easily replaced, a Boyds laminate is on the way...

Good luck with the plastic magazine.

597s have had aluminum magazines (with plastic base plates) for quite a while and have gone thru a series of revisions. I believe the current ones are Gen III.

What do you think your/our 15-22 magazines are made of?

Had one when they first came out several years ago and the magazine didn't last long. Hope they have upgraded them. Otherwise a good shooter.

I have a PC and the two main differences are the Vltor IMOD butt stock (very nice) and the match barrel. The trigger is nice (RRA NM), but I replaced mine with a SSA-E. My PC stacks CCI SV and has excellent accuracy, I haven't tried the regular version yet because my friends all have PC versions as well.

My cousin's sport sprays bulk all over from 25 yds. Only saw this while zeroing a red dot (yeah, I know, not the best tell, but still I know when I have a 1" circle covered at 25 yds). Promise it will not outshoot a stock 10-22. Which is another way of saying that its minute of squirrel. But then, thats not really what its for either.
