I love most, if not all PC semi-autos'. Who here doesn't? I have a silly question that I hope can be answered here, and it is this: What is the significance of the etched numbers matching the barrel to the frame of the firearm? I ask because I have a few of said semi-auto gems and the numbers are curious. The first odd one came with my recent purchase of a 845 TC with a crazy serial number. it's etched number is 127-A. The whole gun is strange - and brilliant. Laser accurate and breaks down and reassembles with ease. The gun has had special care - you can feel it in every way. The other one of note(to me, at least) is my 6" 952; its' etched number is: 1. Does that mean that it was the first long slide made? I have many others, but their etched numbers are non remarkable (to me, at least).

Thoughts?

I'm at work, so no pictures (yet).

Thanks, and Merry Christmas everyone!

I’ve always been under the assumption that the etched numbers are not significant other than they should all match between the frame, barrel and slide.

Bench build number, signifies a set of matching hand fitted components. You will also occasionally see build numbers stamped on some few TSW guns. I have a 4566TSW so marked with hand stamped matching numbers.

Typically seen as hand stamped on the slide & frame then electro-penned on the barrel

Not related to the serial number and no significance other than to assist the guy at the bench in keeping each set of three fitted parts together during the build out of a batch or run of guns.

Cheers
