PC1911

I am looking to buy a PC1911 that is a 45 acp, 5", and before the lightening cuts and such. I have found one, sku 170243U. In excellent condition. Any ideas what the max I should pay is. Serial prefix JMB and 4 numbers starting with 1. Any suggestions appreciated.

My wife bought me a new PC1911 (JMB 13XX) in November, 2006.
There were two stock numbers with the only difference being the finish.
MSRP was about $2,500 and she paid $1,454 shipped and transferred.
It came with a large aluminum PC case, lock, paperwork, fired case (08/21/06) and two ACT mags.

I put a FO front sight on it and shot it several years in IDAP CDP.
It's a fantastic gun that sadly hasn't been out of the safe to be shot in several years.
If I recall correctly it went almost 5,000 rounds before the first malfunction and that was because I had let it get way too dirty shooting 200 grain H&G68s.

I haven't really checked on them in a few years but occasionally one shows up on GunBroker.
The last time I saw one on GunBroker I believe it was listed for about $1,200 which is a great buy for what they are.

Those PC1911s were designed to be PC guns from the ground up unlike current PC1911 which (I was told by a S&W PC guy at the NRA show some years back) are based on the standard E models and that's why the current PC1911s are considerably less expensive than the one I have and the one you are looking at.

Depending on its condition, what it has with it, and how bad a person wants a pretty much hand built 1911 then $1,200-$1,500 would be a deal in my opinion.

However having put several thousand rounds through one I am admittedly biased.

Everything is there, including the box the aluminum case was shipped in. According to seller, it is one of two a distributer took to Shot Show 2009. It is melonite finished and I would say 98%. Seller says very low round count and by appearance I would agree. He is asking $2000.

I am just curious if that is too much for all the beating the PC has taken since the late 90's?

As far as the "beating" the PC has taken in the last few years I suspect that anyone somewhat familiar with their history can easily differentiate between the quality/value of the old PC guns and the current PC guns.
I've owned four PC guns, two from the old PC and two from the new PC.
Two are truly custom guns and two are basically modified production guns.
As a result I doubt an older PC gun like you're looking at wouldn't get any demerits because of the current gun's quality/value.

Only you can decide if $2,000 is too much for that particular gun.
You may consider the motive behind the possible purchase.
If you're going to actually shoot and enjoy it I doubt you can get that quality of a gun for $2,000.
I've owned/own 1911s from Colt, Remington, Ruger, SIG, S&W, Para, Kimber, and Dan Wesson (one Colt and one Kimber were from their custom shop).
I've never owned a full custom, i.e. Wilson, Baer, Brown, etc.
The PC1911 is head and shoulders above anything I've owned with the exception of the Dan Wesson Valkyrie Commander 9mm but its MSRP was about $2,300.

If you are thinking of making a profit on it you may be disappointed unless you hang on to it for awhile.

That’s my thinking. I believe I paid about $1800 for mine, years ago. I don’t know where you would get a better .45 for the same money.

I have and have had a lot of 1911 .45 Autos, and shot a lot of them owned by others - including Wilsons and Ed Browns, which cost 2-3x what I paid for the S&W. The S&W was/is the best gun for the money spent, IMO.

A heads up. I was buying to shoot it, but, once the bidding past the cost of a new Valor in duty finish I baled.
