Pencil Machine Gun??

Really...7 year old kid in VA playing and points a pencil while making machine gun noises...get 2 days suspension. What about the kids who cannot read/write or cannot do math without a calculator.

Schools need to focus on getting kids to learn and having the parents involved before they get to high school and then hit the streets as deadbeats. Sorry state of things today.

Guess half of us would have never been in school long enough to graduate if we had been kicked out for " non PC behavior" !

We used to build "rubber band guns" with matchboxes and rubber bands. At recess we would shoot hibiscus stems at each other.
I got in some trouble at school but never for the hibiscus stem attacks.
Times have changed. And not for the better.

I'll bet they'd expel most of the Third Grade for acting out "Cowboys and Indians" at recess --- violent gestures, not PC, "squaws" not afforded equal rights, probably some cruelty to horses... This silliness is so stupid as to be laughable, if it weren't so insidious. Tarring and feathering ought to be reinstated for these idiotic administrators.

Played Cowboy as a kid, won many gun fights, lost a bunch also. Also played Superman and Tarzan. Have yet to walk into a theatre or mall and start shooting people!

Our school is pretty reasonable. On the other hand, I was helping my ten-year-old with his history project, a Civil War era newspaper. The back page was supposed to be for period-appropriate ads. I suggested an ad for one of Mr. Colt's fine revolvers. The kid looks at me, sighs, and says, "Dad, we can't take pictures of guns to school." I let it go, but the front page was a story about the carnage at Gettysburg. Wonder what inflicted all those casualties.

My son was lucky I guess. Earlier this year he was pretend playing with his fist as a gun during recess and he only been lectured how inappropriate his behavior was

We wouldn't want to offend all the children, more like we wouldn't want to offend all the yuppie parents. The administrators are so busy covering their asses that if a child coughs in rapid succession it will lead to a 3 day suspension for making machine gun noises.

One of a local school district administrators lived next to my brother. They announced a Zero Tolerance Policy about something. As My brother and I discussed this, I said I was in favor of all the ZTP's we could get. My brother, knowing I hated such idioticy, wanted clarification. I said that once we had a Zero Tolerance Policy for every aspect at school we would not need 13 Assistant Administrators and we could the fire them as no thought would be necessary to run the school system. My brother had a conversation with the neighbor and 4 days later there was an announcement on the news that the school system would be doing away with ZTP's and would be reviewing all these incidents on a case by case basis. If nobody tells them you are you are going to fire them, they will just keep on being ridiculous. Ivan

The almost total lack of common sense is really scary and seems to be universal. Are all of our teachers and school administrators coming from the same place???
These same stupid issues are happening all over the country.

Wow! The school I attended would have been deserted by lunch time of the first day if our school administration had been composed of the idiots we have today that view simple playground activity as a goofy "zero tolerance" infraction that demands suspension....
