Perfect for me that is.
Last Sat. at the AGCA show I picked up a 3.5" M27-2. This is my first M27. It's serial #N6288xx should put it around 1979. It was in the original box that notes the target hammer and trigger but not the target stocks that it came with. The box did not have any tools or paper work in it, only the paper it came wrapped in and a business card from B&B Sport Shop here in Birmingham with a description of the gun typed on the back. Anyone remember this shop?
It is not in perfect condition as far as finish goes with some slight freckling and a couple of small spots on the side plate. It also had that gold stuff in the stampings. But since I got it at a good price and everything is good and tight I think it'll be perfect for what I want, a M27 that I can shoot and occasionally carry.
This morning I gave it a good cleaning and removed the gold stuff. Tried a pair of magnas with a Tyler T grip I picked up at the OGCA show a few weeks ago. I think I like this set up the best, targets are just a little big for my hands.
Sorry this got so long but I'm kind of pumped about this gun. Here's some pics.

After 1974 (I think) all 27s came with full target options which I believe is a mistake on the 3.5" version. I also think that 1979 was the last year for the 3.5" barrel with the 4" replacing it as a standard length during that year.

That's the way I remember it too.

Incidently, I saw a Burt Reynolds movie from about 1974 called "Shamus". He was carrying a 3.5" 27 I believe.

M-27

Nice can't blame you for being pumped. I have a Lew Horton 8 shot 3.5 and i love it. Think you will find many days of enjoyment.

If you ever decide that it`s "not" perfect for you, let me know. I`d love to get hold of a 3 1/2" 27.
Besides, I really need another N Frame. Picked up a model 15 a couple of weeks ago. Now I have 7 K frames and only 6 N frames. I`m out of balance.

Sweet looking 27! You did very well. They were made for shooting so a few very light flaws is no problem. It still looks great! They do handle .357's with ease.

Soooo much sweeter with the magna`s instead of the targets on that 3 1/2"!!

Good grab, I'm envious. It looks good with the magnas & T-grip. IMHO the O/S target grips don't look balanced with the short barrel.

Now go forth and shoot it, lots.
