Here are 2 of my latest S&W Revolvers. The 66-3 F Comp on the right has a PCP002XX Serial number. It also has Rear Night Sights that I don't believe are factory. I bought the correct kit to replace them but I think they look pretty good so will leave them there for now. The 683-3 Carry Comp on the left spent some time in Europe and has proof marks on the left side of the frame and barrel. The correct Performance Center number PCG00XX is marked at the top inside the frame. The frame butt has a CBL95XX serial number. Both guns came with Uncle Mike grips. They are now wearing Culina Roasted Birdseye maple Combat grips.

The 686-3 carry comp is beautiful with the matching Culina stock! I just got mine two weeks ago.

.....snip....... It also has Rear Night Sights that I don't believe are factory. .......

Those rear night sight assemblies are factory, they were offered on one of the Performance Center 7-shot M686's made for distribution by Lew Horton.
Here's the flyer for that model.

I somehow acquired a set and installed them on one of my M66 F-Comps, they are obviously dead now, some day I'll get them relume'd.

Terrific pair of revolvers, and beautiful stocks. But does anyone actually have hands that will fit those things? I mean, do many people really have fingers that are an inch in diameter?
Or were they fit specifically to your bear paws? 😁

Not specific for my hands. They might be large for some people but are Perfect for Mine.

Thank you for the pics. I don't know what the numbers on the top strap represent as BATF uses the number on the bottom of the grip frame as the official serial number of any S&W.
jcelect

Something weird about that revolver, every PC revolver I've owned has had the s/n on the butt as well as on the underside of the top strap....

I believe they put it under the top strap due to shipping guns with oversized grips so dealers can verify the serial number w/o removing the grips...

Interesting....
