Performance Center 4006 Question

I recently spotted a 4006 Performance Center gun at a local dealer. The strange thing was that it was Single Action Only. It had the slide mounted safety/decocking lever BUT you couldn't put the safety on with the hammer cocked. That's a bit odd for a single action only pistol. Whenever I put the safety on it would decock the hammer.

What is the point of a SAO pistol that you can't carry cocked and locked??

I’d love to see pictures of the pistol. The “Limited” series of 5-inch and 6-inch guns that were designed to be single action only simply don’t have the hardware inside them to decock the hammer.

Furthermore, the frame itself would need to be modified and milled to even contain the necessary parts that would allow the pistol to decock.

On the single action only target pistols, that lever works as a hammer block and zero else.

For it to work any differently, that gun had to have been modified from it’s original design. Some folks did send them back to the PC for such work.

Did the shop have a price you’d care to disclose? If you cannot get a picture, is it possible for you to look at the box end label and find a product code/SKU?

I'll go back to the shop on Saturday to see if it's still there. It looked mint and had a 4" barrel like a standard 4006. It was only $400. If I thought that the Performance Center could convert it to DA/SA I would have grabbed it. I doubt that they would be willing to touch it at this point.

Well, S&W might take a look at it, but the Performance Center does not exist and hasn’t for nearly a decade. And I wouldn’t send it to S&W, that’s for sure.

If whatever this pistol turns out to be truly was built in the Performance Center between 1993 and 2012, it’s worth five times or more that price, even if someone has to fix it.

The PC 4006 DPA (product 170195) was the same as the 5906 DPA, except in .40 S&W. Stainless frame and slide... The 4006 was a bust, and only 12 examples were made, 4 of them went to Lew Horton. Mine is one of those 4, it has a serial number prefix of "PCZ" which I'm told was used for Performance Center prototypes/pre-production samples. Mine is shown with a scarce PC Magazine well that I added to it.

Nonetheless, I'd be camped out on the door step of that LGS in the morning for a PC 4006 of any kind for $400.

Regardless of any factor if it is any form of a PC 4006 in my opinion FIND OUT WHAT TIME THEY OPEN AND GO STAND IN FRONT OF THE DOOR !!!! THAT MAY BE A DEAL OF A LIFE TIME!!! If not ill call the shop for ya and have them hold it what was the name again

I found that many years ago at (now defunct) Speed Shooter Specialties, listed under "Performance Center Parts"

I had always wondered what these two spaces between the grip frame and grips were for:

I had to drill the hole in the "legs" for the grip pin to pass through, and presto.

The pistol that you saw, did it have the forward cocking serrations near the muzzle? Did you notice if it had a Briley bushing?

I absolutely LOVE when forum guys come across amazing deals and opportunities and share the tales, so I’m speaking from my heart when I say that I am rooting for you.

But the skeptic in me can’t wrap his head around how a gun shop that is still in business (and thus, profitable) would have in their possession, a steel frame and PC marked S&W .40cal pistol and not do even one internet or Gunbroker search to see that the least valuable non-Tupperware S&W PC .40cal pistol (a Shorty 40) has a market value that, at the very bottom bottom end, is like $750-$800. Bottom end. A Shorty 40 with lots of visible wear and/or modified would still pull $750 on the low end.

And a for-profit gun shop would price this mystery gun at $400?

Call it skepticism or simply following Occum’s Razor, I just cannot see how this happens.

As for the gun shop, they only take consignment guns so the owner set the price not the shop.

Anyone see a magwell like this before? It's would be for a double stack mag.It has a groove in the back like a 3rd gen. grip pin would secure it.


Well I figured it out.After seeing the above post showing a magwell I thought this might fit a 3rd gen. 9mm or 40 but it turned out to be off a Sig Sauer X5 in 9mm

Oh man, sorry to hear that... but not unexpected at that price.

That's pretty amazing that the owner put that kind of price on it for consignment.

But, I ran into that myself with a Marlin 444S that was in the LGS consignment rack with a $299 price tag on it. It only had 10 rds fired out of it, the owner furnished with the gun, the 20rd box of ammo he bought with the gun with 10 spent rounds in it. I guess it wasn't is cup of tea, and after firing it, it went onto his safe for 35 years, and then to the LGS for sale.
