Peta Looking To Buy Drones?

I thought everyone on their payroll constituted bought drones.
honestly, its nothing new. there already was an incident where a PETA toy was harvested after harassing some hunters.
At nearly a grand per toy, one good man with a box of shot shells could chew up their budget pretty quickly.

Ok. I am not against using something like that to catch poachers and unethical hunters in the field, but that is for law enforcement not civilians. Also what happens when one of these things crashes and hurts someone, or knocks a hunter from a tree stand, or makes someone flinch at the crucial moment and sends their 30-06 round astray. I bet they didn't think of that. Or they did and they hope it happens.

I know if I was out in the field and one of these things was chasing me id shoot it down and not think twice about it, or id follow it back to where it was launched and kick that guys ***.

What about PETA getting cited for harassment of wildlife flying a drone near and around waterfowl is illegal if I was a game warden id right them up for that.

These people don't even understand, more animals have been saved by hunting than we can count. As many of you know hunting keeps game species populations in check, the animals that are harvested are checked for diseases that can harm humans if ingested or left to taint water supplies. The harvesting of game species directly relates to non game species. Hunters spend big money on property improving habitat for their target animals this in turn helps non target species as well.

The money spent on guns ammunition archery gear, and many other hunting equipment is taxed this tax (Pittman Robertson Act). is allocated for the development of land set aside for recreation for all not just hunters.

Do you have a link to the story?:)

anybody got one of those WWII Japanese rifles with the sight that flips out on both sides to show you how lead to use? i'll bet it's not patented and you could make a fortune selling them. personally I think 0000 buck from an old 30" full choke should do okay. lee

happened a year or two ago so ... no I don't have a link, just remember a few details.
Essentially the hunt was an organized, professionally guided event. I believe the game birds to be quail (little fuzzy there)
anyways PETA was on the case flying drones to get license numbers on vid .. so they say, from day one of the event.
I think it was day three they report hearing a "powerful gunshot" at which point their vid feed went off line.
we all had a good long hard laugh upon receiving this news

What would the legal implications be from shooting one of these down while flying over private property?

its kinda uncharted territory.
most of these things are not certified aircraft in the Cessna, or even home built sense, but rather fall into the large but unregulated model airplane category.
The way I see it, if shot down over private land, its on them to prove you did it, while trying to maintain a story of non hostile intent.
make no mistake, a model airplane can do great harm to someone. there are incidents where a model airplane out of control had killed people.
its fairly easy to deploy one as a kamikaze weapon to that effect. Having flown several in my past, I speak with some authority that the speed of some model aircraft can meet or beat most sports cars. You can't outrun one.
I've also flown them with loadouts. Yes they can be armed with bombs, missiles and guns. You have no good way of knowing if that thing hanging underneath it is a camera pod or napalm
If you "feel" the drone / rc aircraft is being used to attack you, shoot it down. Self defense applies.

In Minnesota, interfering with a hunter is called a felony. Also know as a poor idea. The current crop of drones are fragile. High brass loads work fine.

In all seriousness, we almost shot down a RC aircraft with a SAM once. When I was in the Navy, we would build model rockets and fly them at a go cart track near NAS Cecil Field. On the back side of the go cart track was an RC runway and one of the guys flying RC's decided on takeoff to bank left and do a flyover at about 25-30 feet. However it was just as we launched one of the rockets and, if you've ever seen some of those small Estes rockets, they are traveling well over 100 mph just a few feet off the launch pad. We missed that RC aircraft by about a foot. I was thinking how could I make an entire bank of those rockets like a Patriot battery to shoot at model drones.

Alright, here we go. An Estes M-104 Patriot. Bring on the drones, PETA!!!!!!

I like it ... I'd still reject it for the economics behind the battle but I still like it.
a good solid 12Ga Flechette handload would still be the first thing I'd try. Even at $2 a round we can afford to keep on truckin' long after PETA has gone broke.
Drones aren't a good idea for these sorts of things, sending one to high speed dirt in a blaze of glory isn't prosecutable as murder. Civil suits are a losing proposition for them as they have to explain just how it came to rest in a specific impact point where it probably had little business being.
and they become open to prosecution and civil suits for the misuse of these craft.

Looks like PETA is in the market for drones to track hunters who "gun down deer." Hmmmm, do you need a hunting license for drones and what's the bag limit. Does anyone make a 12 ga. Drone Load?

PETA Plans to Fly Drones That Would 'Stalk Hunters' - US News and World Report

This is not going to end well for the drone!

In Louisiana, it is a felon to harass or stalk hunters or in any way, interefere with hunters in the field.

If PETA employs drones here, they stand to have the drone confiscated and be facing felony charges.

looking at the specific drones they are interested in. being a pain in the backside would seem to be the intent.
