I was visiting my brother in Phoenix and visited the shop above. Great prices, excellent service. Bought an AK-47 from them at 50-100 smackers less than everyone else.

I'm looking to help out my brother, who lives in Phoenix. He's not a big time gun guy. He's looking for a reputable shop to pick up a good used home defense pistol at a decent price.

He likes the idea of a magazine disconnect (grandkids in the house). I have recommended something in 9mm or .40 S&W. He's not ready for a .45 auto. I am just looking for a shop that I can send him to the will treat a new shooter right.

Any help appreciated.

I have relatives in the Phoenix area, and my brother-in-law took me to a very impressive shop.... the Scottsdale Gun Club. New verse used inventory, huge selection, but the reason I'm recommending it as they had an indoor range with lot's of rentals. For a shooter who is new, best way to give things a test drive before you get serious about buying. Make an informed decision...auto, revolver, caliber, etc. etc.

I'll second Scottsdale Gun Club as a place to "try before you buy" --- last I looked they had an impressive inventory of rental handguns, including one of those unobtainium S&W featherweight .44 mags, flinch-in-a-box...

SGC is pricey. A mom and pop store with friendly, knowledgeable staff is the Pistol Parlour, 500 W. Southern, just west of Country Club/Arizona Ave., in Mesa, where prices are reasonable. No rentals, but often have a good selection of used stuff on hand, too.
