Maybe everyone except me already knew this, but I have just been informed concerning a fix for the photobucket snafu. I should have a link but you can Google “Photobucket hotlink fix”. The catch is that you must use Chrome or Foxfire as your browser. Won’t work with Windows or Safari. So far, I can’t get it to work with my iPhone, but it sure works on my laptop. All the old pictures that I haven’t seen in a while are popping right up. :D

I told PB I was not going to renew when my $10 per year program expired at the end of this year and that their service was worth no more than $30 per year to me. They countered with a $40 per year offer that enable non commercial 3rd party hosting. I'll probably sign up.

Why not move everything from PB into IMGUR? It's free and third party postings are OK. I have been using IMGUR ever since PB changed its policy and I find it better than PB. Simple to move images to IMGUR, and I left all the old ones on PB just to take up their memory. They will stay there forever.

I think the foregoing discussion regards the browser add-on so that old PB images on forums can be seen? It works fine. I have it on both Firefox and Opera. I guess it still works unless PB has recently done something to defeat it.

That’s correct. It’s almost impossible to go back and fix all the old threads with current images, but sure is nice to be able to see them again.

One other forum I frequent has a notice on the start page informing members about the add-on so that PB images in old postings can be seen.

Thanks for the heads up. I went to the link & from what I can tell my old pics are back up again.

Unrelated to the topic at hand, but for a long time I used Firefox. Earlier this year it got so slow and "sticky" for lack of a better term (on two different W10 laptops) that I switched to Opera as my primary browser, and I like it far better.

I have tried everything to get Firefox to work as well it formerly did, but no luck. Removing it and re-installing it made no difference. Chrome also still works OK, but I do not use it as my primary browser as I prefer Opera. A mystery why two other browsers work fine, but Firefox does not.

My immediate fix for P-bucket months ago was called Imgur.com.

I wouldn't use them now if THEY paid ME that $300 a year they mentioned.

No suggestions of using photobucket for current pictures. This is a means of resurrecting old threads that have useful information. Almost impossible to go back and “fix” the pictures on an old thread with new ones posted to a different host. Maybe if there are only one or two pictures in the thread, but if there are several I’ve found it impossible to delete the existing pictures and replace them with proper spacing or “location “ within the thread. Thumbnails, of course, simply end up at the bottom of the thread. Sometimes this is ok, and sometimes less than desirable.
Someone reported that photobucket offered third part non commercial hosting for $40/yr. I’d probably do that, though their attempt at extortion does leave a bad taste. I gathered from their site that some of the commercial users really abused the privelege. Any of the “free host sights” can decide to do the same thing at any time. None are obligated to provide free services. Advertising revenue only goes so far. By the same token, $400/yr fees for a casual user is way, way out of line.

Last fall or late summer I copied all my P-bucket pics back to my hard drive and then moved selected pics to Imgur. In the long run, it was a good time to inventory the pics. Some got deleted while I saved others.

I deleted the ones with no interest and deleted my account there. Luckily I was not one of those with hundreds and hundreds of pictures!

I had about 350-400 pix I copied from PB to IMGUR. It turned out that I had a number of duplicates which I did not previously know about. How they got there is unknown. I eliminated those along with 50 or so others that I had absolutely no reason to keep.
