Picked up a 32-1

Well, I had a box of .38 S&W cartridges and no gun to put them in. So I felt the need to remedy that. It was delivered to my door last week and I am very pleased with it. And it came with half a box of ammo. What could be better?

According to Roy Jinks, it was shipped in February of 1967. And according to SCSW 4th, the diamond center stocks were eliminated in 1968. My gun does not have the diamond center, but the stocks are numbered to the gun. I can't remember off hand when the order was written at the factory to eliminate the diamond, but this one must have been pretty early in the process.

All numbers match, serial #111083, for those who keep track of them.

It looks good with my .32 HE snub and my Baby Chief. Nice to have one in each caliber. :)

Order #944, which included J frame stocks, was issued on January 11, 1966. Non-diamond stocks on a Model 32-1 are entirely possible in February, 1967.

I picked up one locally last year. I’m guessing It hadn’t seen many rounds through it. It’s in really nice shape.. I bought brass, dies and some .361 bullets and have been loading for it too. Sweet guns!

I never paid much attention to the 38 S&W cartridge until my dealer showed my M32-1 to me. He made such a deal I couldn’t refuse it. After shooting it some I really enjoy shooting this mild cartridge. For pure enjoyment, 38 S&W is just fine. Matter of fact if I found another longer barrel revolver in 38 S&W I’d be very tempted to pick it up.

Back in the 1980's at a gun show there was a local gun store owner selling off boxes of "obsolete" calibers. I bought a few boxes, including one I still have with 50 41 Long Colt rounds. Might have to use this as an excuse!

i have a Terrier, which is an I Frame, pre model number 38 S&W. I have been looking for a long time for a nice model 33, square butt but have never come across one in the wild yet.

the mate for your I frame Terrier is an I frame 38 Regulation Police. The mod 33 and the mod 32 are mates, so to speak!

The regulation police only came in a 4" barrel as far as i know. i was looking for a two inch barrel thus the model 33.

You may be surprised and/or happy to know that in your search you may encounter a scarce 2", and 3" sq butt as well. They're out their.

Yes sir you are correct for the standard guns sold!
The Regulation Police, 38S&W, 4" barrel, & SB grips became the model 33 after 1957. The Terrier, 38S&W, 2" barrel, & RB grips became the model 32 after 1957. As stated, there were model 33s made with 2" barrels. I have owned a 2" mod 33 that was in its original box and lettered as shipped with the 2" barrel. They are rare! ! !
