How can it be a Model 10 with adjustable sights? Are you sure it's not a model 15 or pre model 15?
That's picture you are showing and 5 screw to boot from a much earlier time.

Gezz My bad. Brain fart I guess. Changed that heading. Do you think its a pre-model 15? The seial no. is K1258xx

I got it for $300 OTD, I think I am pleased. I was able to look the pistol over carefully before purchase and lockup and timing are VG. Finish has some holster wear but the gun has no rust or pitting anywhere and the bore looks great also. Grips are solid overall with a nice worn-in look.

It's probably worth nearly twice that much.

You got a good deal in my book. Little while ago mine cost 400 dollars and I was happy. Made in 1957. How does it shoot? Saveourguns

Just picked it up today. I will give a range report when I get to the range next week.

Pirate, You have tread on a long and slippery slope, You will find that each new Smith will hold a special place in your heart!
I too just picked up a PRE 15 just two weeks ago, Mine is from 1953, I am confused though, It appears that mine has the older style hammer, though newer than yours, Mabey someone here will be able to tell better than me.
You got a great gun there Pirate !
I stole mine too. Just a few less $$$ than you paid.
We all get lucky sometimes! and lucky on a great gun is better!

Oh so true my friend! I have pickup two Model 10's in the last 3 months, the one I show above and a 2" snub 10-7. I also picked up a very nice Colt "dick" sp. last week, so I am a bit out of control right now. But I have found with all the panic buying going on most of the gun store traffic is looking at plastic fantastics and black guns and the old work horse revo's are being overlooked.....but not by me!

Nice find, they are outstanding shooters. There is something about them that makes you shoot in the same hole.

The hammer you have is a target hammer and this comes up in conversation often. Here are two examples, a 1950 and 1953 version, both have the same hammer as yours and they were very likely not modified by the owners. Nice find by the way! You'll find it's a fabulous shooter, my personal favorite is the S&W K-frame.
