A model 17-4. I walked in a fellow was trading it for a semi-automatic pistol. I waited until he was finished and asked the owner what he wanted for it and walked out a happy camper. Some muzzle wear and a few handling marks but a nice piece non the less. I typically stick to 4" and under guns but this one was hard to pass up. If i'm not mistaken I believe the grips are a set of matched rosewood. Attached is the picture I took on the counter.

My very first S&W revolver was a K22 outdoorsman. Bought in a garage sale in Alaska in the late 80's. Didn't think much about it until I showed pics of it on this forum and got a letter on it. It was equipped with King super target sights and letters as 1931 ship date. Before this forum I was pretty much a 1st and 2nd gen auto collector. Now not so much.

First handgun I ever purchased was a new 17-? in 1971 when I turned 21. I have owned about four 5 screws since that time and for whatever reason sold them off to purchase something else I thought I would rather have at the time. None of us have done that!!! Some years ago, I walked into one of my local shops and there was a 1948 5 screw in excellent condition in the case. I think I had to fork up $175 for it. I swore then and there that this one would go nowhere. I taught myself to shoot handguns well with that first one. Used to pop cans off of a stone wall at 75-100 yards with it on a regular basis.

And wearing Sanderson's, what a gem!

Marshal Tom...... Noooooooo, never done that. See my post above. One in a too long list of brain farts. Always thought I would be able to replace them later.

It is a great revolver, congrats, and hope you enjoy it!

I put a similar pair of stocks on mine, although mine are Goncalo Alves, made in 1982. I would be interested in finding out whether yours are Rosewood. I posted a couple pics to compare.
