Just got back from the range. I've got a few different carry guns already and decided to hit the range today with my Kahr CM9 and Glock 27 with a 9mm barrel and a bunch of reloads. I always browse the in stock guns before I head in and saw a 9mm Shield and decided to grab it. Still have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up since I purchased it out of state. I put about 150 rounds through it as a mix of reloads and winchester 124g nato. Everything shot great and I've been hooked pretty good. It was quite enjoyable. Wont be getting rid of anything, but I can see the shield being rotated in pretty soon.

I was a bit paranoid seeing some of the complaints and a few users not quite satisfied with their customer service experience, but figured I'd take the chance since I'm used to hearing good things. I placed an order for some Truglo TFO sights, some extra mags, and a comp-tac holster. Can't wait to get it out again. I went from zero to two smiths in about two weeks now after picking up my M&P340 357 last week.

Congrats on purchasing a fine gun. I have owned pretty much every compact 9mm ever made and thus far the Shield is the best-of-breed (followed very closely by the 39XX series). Not sure about the complaints you've heard about customer service, I have used S&W's customer service about five times over the last 10 years and I've never been anything other than completely satisfied. And five times is a really low number compared to the number of Smith & Wesson handguns I own. Fortunately of the two Shields that I own and the dozen or so in use by officers in my department, we've never had one with a single hiccup or other reason to use customer service.

The best compact 9mm S&W carry gun is the 3953, shown here with one of the two 9mm Shields I bought back in May. I gave those two away to my daughter and daughter-in-law. The Shield is a nice gun, I have talked four co-workers into buying Shields, though one went with the .40 S&W version.

Got my TFO sights in the mail today but they are glock model yellow/green even though the sticker says M&P green/green. Oh well I'll be exchanging them. This buys me a bit of time to ask about the APEX trigger.

Is it worth doing the apex tactical trigger kit for the shield or better to get the whole kit with the aluminum trigger? I've never actually done any trigger mods to any of my glocks, but I see so much apex talk about the M&P that I'm kind of interested. I honestly don't have any issue with the shield trigger as it is, but I kind of want to know what the hype is about.

If you like the trigger, do not bother with the APEX trigger.

Many of the people who did that were complaining about the stock trigger.

I would recommend you look for a video 25c trigger job. There are a couple of places to polish your Shield - and they do not require a full detail strip. There are also a few videos similar to that one which are specific to Shield.
The caution - go by hand - you are only investing the time similar to 1 side of an LP. And remember you are polishing not removing material. An auto product like Mothers Mag Wheel polish will work just fine.

That's probably a better option, but I'm still curious about the apex kits :)

I put Tru glo sights on mine along with the apex carry kit and new apex trigger. Very happy with the accuracy and trigger pull which is now under 6 lbs.

Glad to hear another person is enjoying their Shield. I just got mine and I can't wait to get it to the range

Sorry about the sideways picture. they post that why for some reason.

I really like the sights and they make an old guy a much better shooter!! LOL I can acquirer my target much quicker than with the stock sites, especially the longer ft. site

I liked the looked of those from the first time I saw them. I'm thinking they will be my first upgrade. Do you use a combat cut holster? I wonder if it would change the fit at all

Ordered the apex kit for my new shield and should be trying to install it this afternoon. I didn't get the trigger yet though. Also have the new TFOs to install at the same time. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is the sight removal. I use pushers for all my glocks but figured I'd try to punch out the sights on the vise with the shield. They've been soaking in break free since yesterday and I got a soldering iron for the allen key so hopefully nothing sneaks up on me too much.

I also lucked out and found a Shield holster from pjholster in his in stock area a few days ago.

I cant say enough good things about the PJ holster and a Shield. That is my EDC. I have had my holster since sept of last year and its great. I have taken many road trips with it and its doesnt bother you while seated. I have on several sundays fallen asleep with it on while watching football. Very comfortable and versitale holster. I have the standard with clip on belt loop.

Ha, yeah I check his in stock page regularly. It's always a bit outside of the normal (like different colored kydex or a 30 degree cant etc). I'm waiting on one for my Glock 30S that's still another 6 weeks away I'm sure. I've found in stock items for my CM9, Shield, and M&P340. The shield was listed as 15 degree clip on RH IWB in chocolate brown kydex. I wasn't so sure about chocolate brown, but figured it was worth the chance. :D
