Picked up a Shield 9mm

I did the apex and TFO install... It went ok. I struggled a bit getting the trigger spring hooked on to the slave pin, but otherwise it wasn't so bad. That is, until I did the sights and striker block. I saw someone suggest a soldering iron to get the red loctite out and that worked out great. Then came the pounding and taping and brass everywhere. Eventually got them on though not sure how centered they are. I'll be taking it to the range tomorrow to see how everything goes.

Just got back from the range. I put 50 rounds of American Eagle, 50 rounds of Winchester Nato, 50 rounds of Blazer Brass, and about 65 rounds of my reloads, a few rounds each of Hornady Critical Defense, Hornady Critical Duty, and Speer Gold Dot. Not a single hiccup.

I think I'm happy with the apex kit. It is quite a bit smoother and the break might be a bit lighter but the original shield trigger wasn't that bad to me. I'm not sure if I would do it again for the cost, but I'm happy with it. I may try the AEK trigger too sometime. I never had an issue with my glock triggers before, but going back and forth from the glock to the shield really made me notice the glock safety dingus.

I'm not sure I'll keep the TFO sights. I've got trijicon HD sights on a few of my glocks and I really missed the bright easy to focus on orange at the range. The green dots of the TFO were a bit harder for my eyes to focus on and so even though I could still get decent shots my sight picture was normally a slightly fuzzy mess of 3 dots. The TFOs seem great in the dark and under specific lighting conditions when the fiber really makes them bright, but in the range light they were kind of dull.

edit: I ran a cheapo wheeler trigger gauge

  • Shield w/apex 5.5lb
  • Glock 6.5 lb
  • XDS45 after recall 8lb
I don't actually have too much of an issue with the XDS trigger but it did surprise me to see how high it was.
