I had an M&P40 FS for a while and decided that I wasn't too crazy about it, and I ended up trading it away.
After a while, I kind of missed it and thought of replacing it.
Then I thought why not get a compact? It's easier to conceal. So after mulling it over, (and after our new gun laws here in NY) I decided to buy a new compact. I didn't care whether it was 9mm or 40S&W, as long as I could find either one.
I found one at a price I could live with, so I grabbed it.
Here is my new M&P9c. Ready to ship & test fired on 1/17/13.

nice, i picked up a new 40c yesterday too. test fired on 12-13-12. i don't have a holster yet, the store i bought it at didn't have what i wanted, or anything close. did you shoot it yet? i've not had a chance, the weather outside is not so good.

I got mine last week and its interesting the slight differences. Mine had two magazine slots in the left side of the case and yours one in. My pinky extension also doesn't have the little bumps on yours to separate the gap.

I got my 9c about a month ago from Gander Mt. I love it, conceals really well. Just wondering mine came with a 17 rd and a 12 rd has anyone else's came like this?

Wish I could find a 17-round mag for the 9c I bought just a month ago. In fact, it was its ability to use the FS 17-rounder that was the deciding factor for me to get the 9c.

OP, did you consider any other compact other than the M&P 9c (e.g., Glock, Springfield, Ruger, etc.)...?

No, I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. This weekend I will.

I'm only allowed to have 10 round mags here in NY (for now).
No, I didn't look at any other compacts. I had an M&P before, so I was familiar with it. I've handled several other makes and models, and none fit my hand like the M&P does.

I am impressed with the updated trigger sear in my new gun, but I have already ordered an APEX Ultimate Striker Block.

I think you made a very good choice. My wife has the M&P 9c, it's a great gun. I purchased the Walther PPS 40 because of the thinness, (too long a wait for the Shield) when I clean the guns I can see that the M&P has a much simpler design than the Walther, there for more reliable.

The compact should not have a 17 round magazine from the factory. Somebody did a switcharoo on you.

M&P 9mm compact

Does the M&P 9mm compact without the thumb safety have any internal safety mechanisms similar to a Glock?

What is going on? You guys are getting 17 round mags with guns that hold 12 round mags?

Maybe they ran out of 12 round mags??

Mine came with 3 - 12 round mags (LE model).

The holster is a Blackhawk.

How do you like the holster? Does the magazine release hit any leather on the left side? I bought a Blade-Tech that released mine every time, but am still trying to decide which to go with when I return it.

So far I've only carried it for about 1/2 hr. just to try it out.
So far, it was ok.
No, there is nothing on the holster that comes in contact with the mag release. That was one thing I checked before I bought it.

I like. I had my FS for 2 weeks & liked it so much I bought my 9c for carry. Tried the Shield, but I too have big mitts and it didn't feel right.
May try to get one for the wife though.

My 9c came with one 12 round and one 17 round mag with the grip extender. They can be ordered that way from the distributor. In fact they can be ordered with one 12 round and two 17 round mags. The dealer has to specify that. Here is what it looked like in the box.

Yep. Mine came that way plus the xgrip. The idea is you carry with the shot mag and keep the 17 rounder as your backup.

I bought my 9c a year ago and came with 2 12 round mags. I have plenty of 17 mags because a have a 9F too and have two of them with the X Grip (that I bought from Midway as soon as I got my 9c)

Congrats on your new M&P 9 Compact! I am on a crossroads of which M&P to get next. I have a new M&P 22 but I want to add another. You traded yours away and was wondering why, if you don't mind sharing? Talking to my LGS today, I asked which would be the better choice for home or some range time. He was leaning towards the 9, probably the FS though. I don't intend to carry this outside the house.

Your opinion or others would be appreciated.

Thanks, Howard....

I think the biggest factor was that I was having trouble getting used to a semi-auto. I'm a wheel-gun lover.
I think I let myself get discouraged with learning a semi-auto too quick. Some days at the range I'd punch out a bullseye and other days I'd be lucky if I hit the target.
I was on the fence about whether to trade it, and I got an offer of a trade-plus-cash that I couldn't refuse.
I was thinking of maybe replacing it some day, and now with NY's rediculous new gun legislation, I decided to buy a new one while I could still find it.

As a side note, if home defense is your priority, I recommend a full size. The only reason I bought a compact is for CCW.
Either a 40S&W or a 9MM is a fine choice.

S&W just sent me my pinky extension floor plate for my 9c (for the 2nd 12 rd mag mine came with).

Called them up & asked for 1 just as many suggested here. Good advice, great customer service.

Thanks for your reply and input. I believe I will go with a full size, but now the question is: M&P 40FS or 9FS? Tough decision for me. I guess I'll have to do more research on which is the better for me and also try and shoot the two.

You're getting into a Chevy vs. Ford argument there.
Good luck! :D
