I stopped at a tire shop today run by a buddy of mine and he gave me a large pail full of them, but it will be the last I see of them from there. Apparently starting on the first of this year New York State implemented a law where all wheel weights from now on will be made of steel. No more lead. So now I am going to try and go to a scrapyard and a couple other places to see if I can score some more lead weights before they are all gone. I hate politicians.

Lead, an element known to environmentalists and the EPA, to be one of the most deadly poisons in the world. Just saying the word has led to brain damage among some. Our federal and state governments and agencies are working hard to totally remove this loathsome substance from the face of the U.S.
The Army is now using extremely expensive lead free green small arms ammo. It is banned in shot, soon lead fishing sinkers and jigs will be banned, to be replaced by steel. Now wheel weights are on their way out.

Its very true that little children that eat leaded paint are adversely affected.

These do gooders, fail to explain how the millions and billions of children that were raised surrounded by leaded paint, kept enough brain cells to invent are the great inventions of the last few centuries. Many of these same geniuses even drank water from lead water pipes. Its a mystery for the ages how these generations lived surrounded by lead.

The politicians and guvmint agencies will tell us its for our own good, they know better than we do what is good for us.

When I was a kid, Santa brought me a lead soldier molding kit one Christmas. It was the coolest gift I received. It had a little melting pot with molds and lead. I spent a lot of time casting soldiers and painting them. When I ran out of lead, my dad gave me some of his bullet casting lead. In no time, I had a whole division of lead soldiers.

Ah, the good old days before government ruled all aspects of our lives.

And we are unknowingly consuming genetically modified foods, I guess we will just wait and see were that gets us.

My shooting buddies and I always get a kick out the greenies who want to "ban" lead. Where do they think it comes from? Whenever we go shooting with a hill or berm backstop the one guy always says, "Just helping the Earth by recycling."

Humor: In the early 1990's A Las Vegas Cowboy Action Club was using an area by Stateline Nevada to hold their monthly and annual matchs.

Some uninformed people filed a complaint was EPA about the "lead" bullets being used and left in the ground. It took about 11 months before EPA determined that the area they were using was an "old" lead mine.

They lifted the restriction/ban on shooting in that area.

All this stupidness makes my head hurt. Why can't the government types stay the hell out of out lives?

As a resident of the rust belt this should come as good news. However, I'm sure the Chinese are going to be the big winners in this ignorance, again.

Even though lead wheel weights will be banned, they will still show up in the "used WW" buckets for a few years as they are removed when people buy new tires.

California started the lead wheel weight ban in 2010. It sucked because the new weights are the same size, so we had to use more.

Well you know these wheel weight will fly off on the roadside, and kids will start eating them

Oh , when I was a pup , I ate paint chips till the cows came home. Ya don't hear me crying "I can't think!" now do ya?

I'm too old to believe all the BS the Govt. puts out. Been shooting lead bullets for over 70 years now. Casted my 38 Sp. bullets & shot a lot of shotgun also. The Tree Huggers will never give up & our gullible polticans won't either. Too bad for America.

When I was a kid, I used to carry lead pellets in my mouth for quick reloading in my single shot Benjamin. Little did I know I was poisoning myself, wonder how I lived to still be in good health at 74?????

Yep...did the same thing. I also carried my lead split shot there when I was fishing the small streams of Pennsylvania so I could adjust weights to the current. But, there may be something to all this poisoning thing because my wife says I'm crazy, so it must be true!

Well, after my last score of wheel weights, the shop owner said he would keep the next bunch for me too! Probably not all lead, but I get them out when I smelt, but @ 130# per 5 gallon bucket, I have enough around here for a year or two worth of bullets anyway! ;)

Maybe I need to start selling this stuff.

Another source would be local ranges too. Our indoor range just sent out lead by the 55 gallon drums! Since I do some repair work for them, I told them I wanted a bit of that stuff before they sent it all away. Missed the last time, not the next! ;)

It's almost as bad as that nasty di-hydrogen monoxide.
