I've always been attracted to the old smith semi autos since growing up they were always around on ranges and seeing them in the movies. I found good deals on these. In particular the 4506 clearly wasn't shot much and the 459 is in pretty good shape too.

Interesting how the trigger on the 4506 is super smooth and clean, but has a stiff decocker. The 459 has an unbelievably gritty single action pull but a smooth decocker.

When I disassembled and poked around i noticed if I held the disconnector down with my finger and pulled the trigger the grit disappears. Not sure if that is because the disconnector plunger is rubbing or I'm changing the angle of the drawbar as the trigger return spring and plunger moves.

Any ideas on what I should polish or what holes could use a chamfer and deburr? I haven't done a detail strip yet but would like some idea going in where the attention should be. It's hard to tell exactly which part is rough.

Regardless they are good shooters and I'm enjoying the classic smith semi autos that most seem to have forgotten outside of collectors and people on this forum. They just feel great to me ergonomically for my small hands, moreso the 459 than the 4506 but I like them both. Already put in new recoil and mag springs on both of them as precautionary maintenance since I don't know when they were last done and the age of the pistols.

I only see one mistake that you made , and that is you bought them . Because a lot of us started just like you did and we still haven't stopped . I started when my brother died and left me 4 S&W revolvers . I hung out in the revolver section until a member sold me a 637 , and I now have 2 safes . Don't get me started on going down the PC rabbit hole . Good luck , and may you have more restraint than me .
