This is the seller's description:
"629-4 Performance center 170012 pre lock 44 magnum mag comp. HMC0051 as new in the original case, looks to have been test fired, purchased from another dealer. warrenty card has been used but allother papers enclosed, comes with S&W letter that has this leaving July 1995 and is 1 of 67 sent to Lew Horton.Gun is excellent and has excellent lock up."
I am probably paying to much $900.00 fact to face, but I just can't help myself & I have a couple other guns I can sell to cover the cost.

Your gun is one of the second run guns, the first run was in 1992 IIRC. The PC found additional frames and made these up early in 1995. These are fantastic guns, very shootable and controllable.
The gun in the pic appears to have had the cylinder release modified, it does not have the traditional PC profile. I'd question why that is, but it is immaterial overall, unless it indicates other mods to look for (internal, action job?).
Very desireable model. Congrats.

M38a,
Here is a pic of my M629 from the same production run, note the cylinder release:

Here are both versions, the earlier in the forefront. The only visual difference in the two is the painted (red) stripe on the dovetailed front sight of the first production guns (and the serial number prefix, of course).

Wow thanks for the heads up regarding the cylinder release! I totally missed that detail.
I'll check with the seller about it.
I wasn't sure about the price, seller wanted $975 and I offered $875 & we settled on $900. Since it is ftf I figured I save any shipping or ffl fees & saved sales tax if I would have bought it from a retailer.

I don't think the price is all that bad either.

Nice gun.

Those are two beautiful revolvers & great photography.

I'd grab that while you can. The price is not too much above what I've seen standard like new pre -5 variants sell for.

I asked the seller about the cylinder release and this is his response:
"I was not able to find anything on the cylinder latch, asked the Performance center, they said its possible, nothing mentioned in the S&W letter either. most that i have seen have only the bottom cut."

M38a,
I'd not let the cylinder release, by itself, discount your purchase of that gun. If you can, just check out the action to see if all is good, ensure lock-up, carry-up are OK and no push-off. The PC honors the lifetime warranty, so assuming nothing internal is messed up or botched, that is still a fantastic model at a good price.
