I am giving up on getting a G43 and going with a Shield. I have hesitated on the Shield because I didn't like the sights on the Shield. I don't like covering up the target with the sights. What sights can I put on the Shield to get a more "conventional to me" sight picture? I like to have the bulls eye siting on top of the sights like my target guns do. I also don't want night sights or anything like that. They don't even have to be three dot or any dot for that matter. Thanks

I have been shooting at 10yds. and placing the center of the target on top of the front sight post. My groups have been averaging about one to one and a half inches high.
I agree about the sights, the front sight for me is kind of blurry and does not stand out enough.

That's exactly the sight picture I use with my Shield 9. Bullets go right through the middle of the target.

Congrats on a great decision! The Shield is a great gun, and with the capacity for 2 more rounds than the G43 in 9mm, pretty much makes it a no brainer for me.

One word of caution... inspect the firearm thoroughly before you take it home. I bought my Shield 40 new, did some shooting, and found my shots to be left of target by about 3-4 inches at 7 yards. Thought it was me at first. I'm no sniper, but I can shoot decent. Kept shooting, slowed it down, still left of target.

Then i inspected the gun. Turns out, out of the box my front sight was off center! It wasn't centered to the barrel and was drifted to the left. Took it to a gunsmith, had him center it.... now i'm dead on.

Here's a target with 16 rnds all at 3, 5 and 7 yards using the 6 o'clock sight picture. I've never used the front dot as my point of aim.

If it was drifted to the left, it should have made it shoot to the right. Front sight is opposite of the rear for windage adjustment.

Congratulations on choosing the Shield! I used to be a hard core Glock Guy, so there is no disrespect for the brand, but IMO the G43 is too little too late.

So far as sight picture, I think I do understand exactly where you are coming from. I like my M1911 paper puncher to line up neatly at the bottom edge of the black. It is the source of annoyance at the 'combat' sights on so many new guns.

However, the Shield isn't a 'paper puncher' but a close quarters combat pistol. You'll do as you deem best, but I really like the Trijicon HD sights with the big yellow/green dot that you put right where you want the bullet. And if it is really dark, well, it will be nice they're Trijicons.

But be that as it may, welcome to the Shield owners family, you very probably won't be disappointed

I am with you guys I want the POI and POA to be right on top of the front sight blade not behind a darn dot. If I wanted to cover up where the bullet hits I would get a Deltapoint for my pro. I am fighting the sights on my 9 Pro now as they are hitting 1.25" low. I took off my Ultra Dot that was punching the x out of the centers of targets so I could use the Pro in IDPA. I have a post on the reloading forum about this. Priced sights today and to get good ones and have them fitted it will cost half the price of the gun. Going to work this out some how. Sorry Capt Bob didn't mean to rant on on your post but these combat shoot the dot sights are getting to me. Don

Congrats on the new Shield. I just got mine and love it! Looking forward to see the info on sights!

May be suprised. I find my shield a fun paper puncher as well as a great carry gun.

I'm sorry if I implied I don't enjoy punching paper with my li'l baby. I do! But I have different expectations from her and a bullseye gun, that's all.

I put a box of FMJ's through it as soon as the rain stopped yesterday. This gun shoots higher than my son-in-laws Shield. I will have to play with it some more before I put it in my carry rotation though. I see this thread has started a discussion on sight preferences. I have explained mine but the reason I want the sights to line up like I said is for shooting beyond 15 meters. Up to around there I just point shoot anyway. I don't bother with sights. I practice a lot with my carry guns that is one advantage of having a range on my property. BTW the trigger feels gritty. I hope that gets better after a few hundred rounds, if not that will have to be fixed. I do like the way it resets though.
