Hello,

I tried using the search feature but had no luck in finding an anwser. I picked up a 5904 recently which looks to be in great condition. The story goes....it was bought, fired less than a box and put away years ago by an older gentleman. I know the LGS owner well and tend to agree with him. I field stripped the gun and noted a copper colored type grease or lube on the internal bearing surfaces, much like what I saw on my new 40 M&P and the Glock 23 (sold for the M&P:D). So, did S&W use this type of copper colored lube back in the day when the 5904 was assembled? If so I may be a happy camper as the gun looks quite new. Thanks in advance for any help.

Vapor;
The only gun grease I know of was a product called "Gun Slick".
It came in a very small silver tube, about 2" long with a twist on cap.
The grease was black in color with a slight grit in it.
I used it on any gun action parts I wanted to smooth out.
I have not seen it available for many years now.
There may have been a copper colored grease but I am unaware or any.
Good Luck.

Congrats on a nice 5904, Vapor. It sounds like anti-seize compound. Factory applied? Doubtful.

Perhaps more will chime in on this. I would clean it thoroughly, oil it & shoot it.

Well it finally stopped raining enough to take some photos. The specks on the gun are from the heavy mist that is falling now. The gun looks good after a complete cleaning. I am chomping at the bit to try it out!

Glock is known to use copper colored anti-seize on their new guns. Anti-seize compound does have lubricating proerties and pretty well sticks in place.

Thanks yeti!
I could not believe how nice it was when I got it in my hands. It looks like it is in new condition with zero wear in the normal areas. The 3rd generation bug has bit me hard, this is the second one I bought since joining S & W F.!
