Pics of My 27-6 and a Question.

Is that the 8-shooter? I am not near my records but if it is, I bought one new for about $600.00 in the aluminum case. 100 4-inchers and 100 6-1/2 inchers is all they made.

You're thinking of the model 27-7 which was a special run made for Bangers, 100 each with 4 and 6 ½ inch barrels in 2000. The Model 27-6 was the last of the regular production Model 27s that came out in 1993. The Model 27 was discontinued for good (except Performance Center guns) in 1994.

jwilson, you are correct. The angle of the photo made me think I saw more cylinder flutes than there really are, and when I think about it, when I bought mine, where I found it and what I was doing there, I bought my 27-7 in 2000 or later.

I REALLY need to get "the book". Can anyone tell me the "dash history" on the Model 27? Seems like the 27-2's must have been made for many years. I see alot of them for sale. Can't find any info online about the later dash numbers.

Buff - I had a chance to get a 27-7 4-inch when they first came out. A local dealer had one, only one, and was trying to get $1000.00 for it. I passed on it, thought about it some more and went back 5 days later. It was gone! Still kicking myself in the head over that one!

To get this back on topic can anyone help galland1 out with suggested retail for a 1993 27-6?

galland1 - beautiful 27 that could certainly use some nice wood grips! The rubber grips are probably original though, I think the 27-6 was the only model 27 to ship with rubber grips...

That gun wouldn't last long for $600 in my neck of the woods; any less than that (even without the grips) and it would probably fly off the shelves....INTO MY SAFE!

The 1994 Gun Digest show the S&W Model 27 (they don't list the dash number) retailed for $462.00. They only show 6 inch barrel available with Goncalo Alves grips. In the 1995 edition, the retail price rose to $486.00. Given the time frames, this must be the 27-6.

Gun Digest frequently gets the features of individual models wrong in their listings but the suggested retail prices given usually were correct.

Thanks for the great info. Although the 27-2 is higher quality and much more desireable, the 27-6 seem's to be pretty uncommon.

Nice gun, I have been on the watch for one for a couple years and they do come up but when they do I am always on another score - as happened this time. A 27-6 was on Gunbroker by On Target in Kalamazoo, MI. I thought it was worth the $500 opening bid but no one bid on it. The most interesting thing about the 27-6 is the ejector star. I have a non PC 627 with the same style ejector. And BTW, the rubber grips are correct for the gun so do keep it even if you swap for wood.
