If anyone is curious, here are pictures of the M&P M2.0 3.6" Subcompact's three size Configurations.

The grip sleeve for the compact (15+1 round) configuration is a bit loose. The sleeve for the full-size (17+1) magazine, however, is nice and tight comparatively.

As you're probably aware, when you get the Subcompact it will come with the two sleeves (one compact and one full-size). You might just buy both from the outset, or you might be looking to choose one one to start with since adding magazines can get pricey. If you don't already have a preference, I recommend the full-size just because it makes the gun a little more controllable due to its larger size & shape, the grip sleeve fit is better (tighter), and there are more more rounds if you carry an extra magazine (without adding much length in the magazine).

Of course, if you think for concealment purposes you want to start out with the compact, by all means do that. And like I said, if money isn't an issue, buy both. If I didn't already have other compact carry options and I had to decide one over the other, I might opt for the 15+1, but I do, and I like the full-size better for the reasons I stated herein, but everyone is different.

I like the 15 round magazine size with the sleeve to fill the gap. It makes the grip the same size as a Shield so it's just as easy to conceal as the Shield but heavier of course.

I love the 2.0 Subcompact. It's my EDC in all types of weather. Here's a side by side with my shield 40.

Old thread, I know, but as someone who has been looking into getting a new carry gun with the M&P40 Subcompact in mind, this has been extremely helpful because I was wondering about the size difference.

I have the 1.0 compact which is very similar to the 2.0 sub-compact. It's 6 years old now and carried every day. I love having the choice of 12, 15, and 17 rnd mags depending on how I am dressing at the moment.

Same here CB. As I am sure you know You can buy sleeves to fit fil the gap between 17 round mags and the compact grip. I have been making my own sleeves to fill the gap when I use the 15 round mags, which I prefer to carry most of the time.

I lucked out. Was able to get the newer June 2020 version that has the better front cocking serrations. And it shoots really good too. Better than my 9c
