My first firearm was a Glenfield 60, .22LR, with a 4x scope, that was around $90 at K-Mart waaaaaay back in 1977. I followed it with a Remington 700, 6mm, which I used for silhouette shooting, and a Winchester 9422M, .22Mag, that was just for fun. The difference between .22LR and .22Mag was the reason the Winchester is the only one that made it into the 21st Century (that and a divorce).
I didn’t get back into shooting again until 2009, and my first purchase was a Heritage Rough Rider single action revolver, .22LR/.22Mag (99% of the time it has the .22Mag cylinder in it), to go with my Winchester. I love the .22Mag cartridge, so when Kel-Tec announced the PMR-30, I wanted one. I got mine in 2010, and then expanded with a .22Mag bolt rifle, and 9mm pistol and carbine. I just added a pair of Smith & Wesson M&Ps – the 15-22 rifle and 22 pistol. If and when Kel-Tec comes out with the RMR-30, it will be added to my collection.
I have deliberately purchased my firearms so that I can limit my ammunition stocks to .22LR, .22Mag, and 9mm. I think I have a good mix for training, fun, and defense. I have enough magazines so that I can have the following number of rounds at the ready:
PMR-30: 150
Tanfoglio (EAA) Witness P 9mm: 78
HiPoint 995TS 9mm: 75
Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22: 75
Smith & Wesson M&P 22: 36
Marlin 783: 12
Winchester 9422M: 12
Heritage Rough Rider: 6
Of course all of this is academic since I had everything with me in the ice house last weekend when it dropped through the ice into the deepest part of the lake. I was lucky to escape with my life!
