I've looked at the BATF site and probably looked right at the law, but would it be legal to put a longer rifle barrel cut down to
8-10" on my 15-22P or am I flirting with the AOW/SBR law?
Plus, even if it's legal, it might not be worth the time and money.

Making a short barrel rifle (SBR) requires a Fed permit and must be legal in your state.
Just whacking off the barrel below 16" without the paperwork in hand is a Federal felony.

Section 6.1 Requirements for making NFA firearms. Persons not otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms may submit an application to make an NFA firearm, other than a machinegun.93
The application process requires submission of ATF Form 1, Application to Make and Register a Firearm, in duplicate, along with FBI FD-258, Fingerprint Card, in duplicate, and payment of the $200 making tax.

Thanks! However, I'm not cutting my rifle's barrel down, I want to possibly lenghten my pistol's barrel length. Same rule? Regardless , nothing will happen, if ever, without having all my quackers in a row.
Appreciate the quick response.:)

I'm unaware of any length limits to a handgun barrel. TC Contender comes to mind... The next question is why?

ps. Congrats on the 15-22 PC. Hope you get a chance to shoot Wolf Match and give us a report. ;)

Oh, I don't know...sitting here after 3 days of a nasty case of the flu..I might be a bit delusional;).
The only reason would be just an exercise. Even after posting my thread, I asked myself "self..why??):)

I'm going to take the PC and other than just cleaning it, I'm going to evaluate the accuracy, functionality, trigger and such without any mods. I've got my fingers crossed. I just happen to have a couple of boxes of Wolf Match just begging to be tried out.

Oh, I'm probably going to put one of Tacticool's muzzle brakes on it if for no other reason than it looks.....cool.

Regards,

Hobie

No, and if all you have is the pistol, it's pretty simple.

However, if you have a rifle and a pistol, you can get into the situation some of the Contender owners got into about having a legal length barrel for the rifle and making sure the short one didn't "accidentally" get on the rifle.
IIRC, there was a charge where a Contender owner had the frame and rifle stock, but did not own a legal length rifle barrel.
