Planet Fitness, yea or nay ?

My Wife has decided she want's to join a fitness center..A new Planet Fitness opened a short distance from our house..
I feel she will put in the time to achieve her goals and will stick to a regiment..
I would join as well.. I have free weights at home and have my daily regiment but I would like some of the other options the fitness center would have..
Anyone have any horror stories or attributes regarding Planet Fitness ?

I would go in for their orientation and read their rules. If you are use to a normal gym environment where others are helping others then you might be turned off. Some of the rules include: putting weights away between lifts (not keeping them at your station until you are finished), don't make too much noise (staff determines inappropriate level), restrictions on certain types of clothes and apparel, working out too hard can get you kicked out (3x and your are finished for good), you have to use one of their trainers for any time of help (can't be a friend or someone else in the gym), ect. After I read through all the rules and requirements I decided to stay where I was for $20 extra a month over Planet Fitness.

There are been many people who have left Planet Fitness to join the gym I currently attend due to getting kicked out for various reasons. I also know people who love Planet Fitness as well and don't mind the rules because of the price. Just remember their slogan... Judgment Free Zone!

We went to the orientation yesterday..Nice new facility with new equipment..We have a few days to make up our minds before the special expires..

I've been a member for about 2 years. Facility here is clean, lots of equipment/machines, and friendly employees.

I like them. They don't allow yelling and screaming that you get at most muscle gyms. You can't take up a machine or weights for hours on end because today is your 2 hour bicep only day. The one near me doesn't have a pool or a track but it's open 24/7/365

There fine if you are looking for a place to go get on a treadmill and hit a few machines. IF your into serious lifting, its a waste of time. The one near us has dumbells that only go up to 70 lbs and thats it for free weights.

I joined the one near where I work last year about this time to go to at lunch. I am a serious lifter and lift 5 days a week. This place was not for me. Drop a dumbell 3" to the floor and the "Lunk Alarm" goes off. Its the biggest Judgement Free Judgement Zone that there is.

The heavy lifting is not an option for me..I prefer to do lighter weights in repetition..Not looking for bulk muscle gain..I have used some similar weight machines in the past and found them to my liking..
Wifey is still on the "fence" about joining, I'll leave the decision to her...

One warning about fitness centers in general. Better read the fine print
of any contract you sign. Many contain an automatic roll-over clause.
Unless you notify them in writing at least sixty days or so before your
contract expires of your intention to not renew your contract is
automatically renewed for the full term. Many people get burned by
these aggressive contracts and they do hold up in court.

They're a chain and vary from location to location. The ones I've been to have been pretty nice.

If you're going for general fitness, it should be quite adequate for your needs.

Well, my wife pulled the "trigger" and purchased a "black" plan at PF..My wife doesn't drive, it's an eye issue, so I will be taking her to PF anyway..She will get a few perks from the black plan, and I will be allowed as a guest at no charge..
One time fee of $39, one free month, $20 per month..
Their cancelation policy is up front, no issues that We can fore see..
Open 24 hrs with a minimum of 2 employees at all times..More during peak hours..
