You will find that the best thing about Dallas is that it is not too far from Fort Worth.
Couldn't resist that!!!!!!

It's like stepping back in time.

The Bullet Trap is an indoor shooting range within Plano city limits. They have a decent selection of firearms for sale, too.

Plano is a fair-sized city (about a quarter million or so), so you'll find many of the restaurant chains represented within easy driving distance. (I always liked Macaroni Grill, but to each his own.)

Tourist-wise, there ain't that much to see or do in Plano. If you're going to head down to Dallas (or points west) to see the sites, be sure to avoid the horrendous commuter period.

P.S.: Beware of the locals that treat red lights like racetrack starting flags!

I concur on the Bullet Trap as a range and gun store. I think they also rent guns for use there, and the used stock is actually among the best in the area. New stuff, too. You can also shoot at Targetmaster in suburban Garland, and they sell guns. Both of these ranges are large and well stocked. Bullet Trap is a little more polished and closer to you.

To eat, try the Outback Steakhouse at Greenville Ave. and LBJ Freeway. This is in Dallas, a bit south of Plano. The Prop. is named Brende (Say, "Brendy") Owen, and she's a looker as well as being one of the best restaurant managers I've known. Ask for a waitress named Diane. She's half Korean, attractive and smart. Brende's name is posted out front, and she gave me permission to mention her in a book, so I guess I can post her name here.

There's a Red Lobster next door and a couple of other popular "chain" restaurants in that strip. It's almost immediately just past the freeway as you go south on Greenville. You will be going south, if you come from Plano. I believe it's the first right turn past LBJ, just behind a hotel there. Make the right turn and keep going until you see the sign for the Outback, just past Red Lobster.

I eat there once or twice a week, which says what I think of the place. I suggest the Victoria's Filet steak or the Alice Springs chicken. They have a new way of grilling the chicken so that it's less likely to be overdone. New is a Golden Mahi fish fillet, presumably dolphin. I think I'll try it soon. (The fish dolphin, not like Flipper.)

Tell Brende, or managers Kerry or Rocky that you were referred by a regular customer. I think you'll be well taken care of. Please be nice and tip well. They may figure out who I am! :D

Just south of Plano in Richardson is one of my favorite places to eat, Pappadoux's. Great cajun food. Just off the interstate.

Just jump onto I30 and head west. Your destination is the Rail Head in Fort Worth. Exit I30 at Montgomery street and turn south, the Rail Head is on your right just past the intersection. Enjoy the finest beef brisket and pork ribs (get the two meat plate) and a Shiner Bock on tap. All Texas and all good. It don't get better than this for dinner.

If you are looking for some entertainment, jump back on I30 and head east, take the Lancaster exit and proceed to Main St. Go north on Main, through the new downtown, all the way out to the Stockyards. Here you will find all kinds of live music, drink (if you like), and more food. If you are still hungry, try Coopers. The smoked pork chop is unlike anything you've ever wrapped your mouth around. Billy Bob's is next door: the world's biggest Honkey Tonk.

Don't like the Old West flavor? Then head back south to Sundance Square in the modern downtown. Every kind of music and brew is there. And its safe. You can walk around, enjoy the sights and sounds, without any worries. Fort Worth may have the friendliest downtown in America.

Hope you will come over and see us. Enjoy your time in the Lone Star state!
