what type of ammo do you prefer to use in your S&W .22 caliber revolvers?

plated or lead or it just doesnt matter.

They both make a mess on the cylinder face and topstrap.

The best cheap ammo I've found is the Federal 40 grain sold just about everywhere. It doesn't lead and the empties don't stick.

CCI Blazer shoots well, but the cases stick in every single S&W .22 I own.

Depends. When I shoot matches, its only CCI standard velocity as this gives consistently good groups. If you only plink, probably whatever is the cheepest bulk pack.

However, stay away from those Remington golden thuds as they are about 20% duds.

Ever notice the high priced , import target grade ammo from Eley , Lapua , RWS , Fiocchi and top shelf American target (Rem blue label , Win T-22 , CCI Green Tag , Federal Gold Medal) ammo is never plated.

I only use lead in my '48 K22, either Remington or Winchester Target stuff, a local place was selling bricks of either for 25bucks a couple months ago...I'm all stashed up.

I've been shooting just about anything I can get in my '52 K-22, and so far, no problems.

Every 22 acts differently with different ammo. But there are some that cause problems in most guns.

I have found that Win. Power Points give me the best accuracy and with that comes clean and ease of extraction.

You get what you pay for for the most part.

I usually buy the Winchester 333 boxes, they seem to shoot well and extract well, have the least amount of duds..and feed the best for me personally.. I usually end up paying a little extra, but if you shoot .22's in a semi-auto like I do sometimes, it pays to have a little better quality ammo.

If I was just buying them for revolver use, then buy the cheapest you can find and rock on!

I buy whatever is the cheapest. I don't care if it's lead or plated as long as it's cheap...

It just does not matter in my revolver. I use whatever goes bang. I too have trouble with the Remington stuff. When I was young I can't remember having any Remington duds in many, many bricks of 500. Now however, you never know if the stuff will go off or not.

I have been using the CCI Blazers (on my second load of 5,525 from Palmetto Armory) in my S&W 22A-1 pistol and Ruger 10/22 rifle with no problems at all but for the very occasinal FTFire. Cost is about $3.20/100 including freight. Can't beat that.

I shoot the Remington yellow and green box brass plated hollow points and these stick the least in my revolver. In my 617 this is what has worked the best to worse. Remington, CCI mini mag, blazer, Federal, Winchester. The only lead tipped bullet was the blazer and this was no better or worse than plated.

I have both and quite honestly I can not detect any advantage of one over the other. The plated stuff looks better, but shoots the same for me.
