In doing some research on the early 32-44 revolver I came across this piece of info. I have posted it before but never paid attention to what it said the front sight bead was made from. This info is from the "Broadfoot Publishing Company" reprint of "The Rifle" which was originally published by Mr. A. C. Gould. It is a review of the cartridge and revolver that was originally published in May of 1887. I also included the advertisement for the revolver from the same May of 1887 issue.
It says its a platinum bead. No wonder why they only installed it on the early guns target guns.
