I enjoy playing Lotto with the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation. Sometimes you pays your dime only to learn that you new acquisition went to Jones and Jones Hardware Co. in Any City, USA... no further info available. At least you find out if the gun has been modified.

But, then, you send in a request and it is so "hot" you get a telephne call.

I just purchased a refinished Registered Magnum (with other mods?). The gun had been listed on several gun sites for at least 3 months with no takers Afraid, maybe, I'd paid too much. Then came the call:

"Your new gun shipped to a Texas Ranger Captain... not just any old Texas Ranger but one with a bunch of history!"

Details and photos will follow when the letter and docs are in place.

So, the moral of this little sotry is: "when it comes to ordering a letter...you'll never be a winner if you don't play the game!" JMHO

Hold on a second.

If you sent out request for a .38 Special M&P from the 1930's, maybe you are playing the letter lotto.

If you are sending request for a frickin' Registered Magnum then you are doing your due diligence.

I've ordered 5 letters...one was mildly interesting (for a pre-39) and the rest were of the "Moe's Hardware Store, shipment of X guns" variety. The most recent one had the incorrect barrel length on the shipment record (gun clearly has the original barrel) which was one of the mysteries I was trying to nail down with a letter...no dice.

I'll let you quinn fill in the details, but I have seen the man's obit and read some of his history, and WOW, just wow, he was in the thick of it down in TX (probably in MX, NM, and OK too).

This one's story will likely eclipse the Tokyo Rose Reg Mag. and the aliens.
