Please Come Forward If You Paid $700+ for Shield

Hit the nail on the proverbial head shipmate; and I would hazard a guess that quite a few here have paid significantly more the MSRP and won't admit it, and anyone who claims to have bought one new for less then $400.00 is, well, I'll leave that to your collective imaginations.

I paid $335 for a brand new Shield. That's the first responder price at Bud's Police Supply, you can check it out all you want. No tax, free shipping.

I also paid $754 for a new M&P AR15OR just a month ago. And then I sent in for my $100 S&W rebate. Actually bought two and flipped one for $1600 cash the next day. I'm making out on other people's unpreparedness.

I share fries at restaurants. I clip coupons. I reuse garbage bags. I just finished calling 8 local tire shops to find the best price on trailer tires. I also pay more than 100K in income taxes a year.

I believe a penny saved is a penny earned.

And he may counter that yeah that price is great for LE and Military but not the avg Joe.

That being said there are places that sell for under 400 whether he wants to believe it or not. Call Shooters Outpost if you don't believe it. They will tell you same as I posted here.

Plenty of gougers and thieves out there charging way more than the Shield is worth. A private seller doing it? Heck go for it but a GS charging insane prices? Not a place I'd consider doing business with again especially when this madness dies down.

Yep, I'll be told that supply and demand and yeah I think that all shops work under that principle. Some just choose to do it by offering a realistic price. A repeat customer is worth more in the long run than 1 big payday

Alnamvet68 is a LEO....

Here's a great quote along those same lines:

You can shear a sheep many times, but skin him only once. ;)

I know you are out there because I have seen on Gunbroker and Utah gun exchange Shields selling for $700 +

I have just Three questions:

1) After you shot your $700 Shield do you have any buyer remorse?

2) Did you purchase on credit or pay cash?

3) Is your household income above $100K?

Thanks in advance

Russ

none of your darn business.

Alnamvet68 also used the word "anyone" in his post concerning the purchase of a M&P Shield. Should have thought about that statement a little bit longer before making it.

I thought Alnamvet68 probably was a LEO and was actually surprised to see he did not know of the discounts available, even in these times. My local dealer has sold quite a few Shields.

I didn't pay $700, but I'm not shy about what I paid. I laid out $589 which included shipping and the FFL transfer. No remorse and I haven't batted an eye. I would do it again. I wanted the Shield .40, I was sick or looking at every LGS in town, so I bought one on line and never looked back. I don't beleive there is much psychology in any of this. Value is always in the eyes of the purchaser.

By the way, hell yes I paid with a credit card! I put everything on my Delta Amex for the miles and pay it off every month :)

Mdzcpa:

Thank you.

As I read your post I thought of a time several winters ago we were getting dumped on day-after-day and I got so tired of shoveling I didn't care there was a shortage of snow blowers and to buy one would mean full retail.

Your time and gas is worth something and it does get old hunting for a deal.

I possibly could have saved $50 on my Shield 9 mm had I waited but I was in a unique situation where I had a Beretta Nano I had purchased from Cabela's for $429 and after 5 months 1,300 rounds and a trip back for repairs I got tired of the FTEs and the manager was willing to provide me a full credit (at the time I don't think I could have sold her for what I paid) so I traded straight across for the only Shield they had which was their display model. (New but dry fired a million times by every Tom, Dick and Harry)

Russ

P.S. I do the same thing when it comes to credit cards. I have a Cabela's card (applied for when I purchased the Nano Nov 2011, They knocked off $25) that I have never paid any interest but have earned enough credit to buy over the 1 1/2 years about 300 rounds of 9mm.

The secret is to have the money in the bank before you use the plastic.

I also could have saved a few bucks if I would have waited out the madness for my Shield. I paid $503 even at a local show in Columbus, that is the OTD price. I had one ordered from Atlantic Tactical for nearly two months at $399 plus transfer fee, but I was told it would be mid September because I was down the list a ways.

I was in a situation though that provided motivation for my new EDC because I only had a Sig P226, which is not that concealable. My wife's friend left her abusive husband a few weeks ago, and he had already threatened my wife via voice mail. I waited as long as I could to find retail availability but could wait any longer. Now she is waiting for her CCW class and she is being schooled in home/self defense.

As you did, I paid with credit to obtain points and paid the bill before the billing cycle was up. $700+ is outrageous, but they got a hell of a firearm IMHO.

I hope you got a restraining order.

Domestic violence for law enforcement can be one of the most challenging.

It stinks when you only have one ccw. Some on this forum have a ccw for every change of clothing. Unfortunately, I have two in college and one is all I can justify that is why I kept trading until I landed a keeper in the Shield 9mm.

Be safe

Russ

I paid $580 for my shield, and since I live in CA, I also have to pay for a "Single Shot Exemption", DROS, and other misc. fees, so by the time its all said and done, I'll have $750 into this gun. I make substantially more than 100k, and I value my time more than a few hundred bucks. Most folks in CA that want a Shield will end up waiting until mid to late this year, at best.

It's not uncommon for supply & demand to drive the price of an item, any item, to nearly double. Why should guns be any different? I've been trying to find a .40 Shield for months, and have only come across the 9mm (qty:1) in two different retailers stock...and both times I was too late to purchase! So the demand is there. Three days ago, on a whim I walked into a local gun shop and told them that I had just talked with S&W and was told that they have been building them 24/7 for the last year and a half. They said the best way to get one was to have a retailer order one for me - but be ready to wait 3-4months. The guy said- "we just had one here (9mm), but the guy over there is completing the purchase right now. I asked the guy if I could see it and he was gracious enough to say yes. It had the crimson trace laser sight. He paid $1,000 with a holster.
