Hi
Can anyone out there tell me anything about this Model 57? The owner says it is new and never fired, It came with the pachmyre grips.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. Is it something a guy should try and own or not.

Thanks Graydog.

If you get the 6 digit product code off the box, 99.999% of the time that will tell us about the firearm

The 4 digit number is the date of manufacture

From the photo it looks like any other 6" model 57 with the addition of some laser engraving on the side plate.

That laser engraving could have been done by S&W, the Distributor or by the owner.

This 57 looks odd. I have a 57 that I acquired in '92 which had what I believe to have been a 3 screw side plate. I believe that mine doesn't have a side plate screw just below the rear sight. From the looks of this picture, it looks like this Smith has a 4 screw side plate reminiscent of the old 5 screw Smiths.

In doing some research tonight, the Smith in the above photo is a Model 57 Classic, which apparently is carrying the fourth side plate screw. I wasn't aware of the Classic 57, shame on me.

Serial number and box code says the ship date was........

April 7, 2011.

The new four-screw fame was something S&W brought out in 2006 (or so) on certain N-frames. The gun should be a -6, and have the lock and MIM parts.

I'd never seen a 151001 before, so thanks for sharing.
