You have a Military & Police that probably shipped in 1953.

The yoke stampings are for assembly only and mean nothing once the gun is complete.

It's one of if not THE most common handgun of the 20th century, particularly in the 4" barrel.

1953 production was in the C236,004 – C261,483 serial number range. In one form or another, the M&P revolver model has been on the market for 120 years without many basic changes.

The C serial prefix is a tip off. Only fixed sight K frames used the C prefix starting with C1 in 1949 and ending in 1967 with C999999.

One of the experts has corrected me. C! appeared in March of 1948. I was a year off. This is why I keep saying I am not an expert.

Its got ivory grips on it, looks ok with them i guess. Im not a huge fan if the ivory. im just wondering if it would have come from the manufacturer with them couldn't find any pics online with them.
I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post a pic or I would have ..
its just sad

In the very distant past S & W would have added stocks of exotic materials (mother of pearl being most common) but these ivory stocks are almost certainly aftermarket.

Are you certain that they are real ivory and not Mother of Pearl or plastic?
