Sounds like an immediate post-WWI Model of 1905, 4th Change M&P. In 50% condition it won't be worth much. Maybe $200-250. These are very common. Some pictures would help assess the condition. You might want to measure the barrel length again - from the front face of the cylinder to the muzzle. It's probably 5". Square butt or round butt? It could be either.
