You're right of course. I think the only value in these things is to influence the 80 percent of America who don't think about anything but American Idol.

And if they had this poll on one of the many days when there wasn't a a mass shooting, we would most likely be ahead...but it is CNN...could have been worse...could have been MSNBC.

If keeping the right to bear arms hinges on majority opinion, we are all screwed anyway. The whole reason for constitutional guarantees was to protect "rights" from the democratic process. The "tyranny of democracy" is the enemy of every minority, and everyone belongs to some minority or another.
