Hi guys

I maybe have this opportunity to purchase a #3, 3rd model .44 Russian.
Made by S&W, 6.5" barrel, #8951, blue finish with walnut grips.

The gun wears cyrillics markings on the barrel, but NO russian eagle acceptance marking. A revolver rejected by russians?

What do you think about?
Thanks

I'm no help on the Russian Eagle acceptance markings. However, if the revolver was rejected, the Cyrillic was removed and the "Russian Model" in English was supposedly restamped on the barrel rib. I believe (based upon the barrel markings) that your revolver was produced after October 1874. Translated it reads: "Smith & Wesson arms factory, Springfield, America."

Hello Mike

I know that the rejected Russian S&W revolvers had their Cyrillic markings removed, restamped in Latin caracters and sold on the civilian market.
So, what can be the story of this particular Russian 3rd Model revolver?

Concerning the third model like yours, I know the Cyrillic marking with the eagle (Russian contract), the marking in English (civil) and the marking in English with reissue (rejection?)
concerning the 1st and 2nd models, it is attested , but I have never seen a third model with the period markings erased (but I don't know everything.)
Among my Russians, I have a first model marked in Cyrillic without the eagle, Roy G. Jinks attributed it (in the conditional) to Robinson.
I have a second model whose markings have been erased, it has the diamond marked SH from Schyler, Hartley & Graham
I asked myself the question: what if they were not intended for the Russian civilian market?
Does it have minor defects justifying rejection? Like casting defects on the frame?
he is well clean for having had a military life
no HS from the distributor?

Sylvain
