Plinker Tactical 35 Round Magazine

Bought 4 PT mags when all the sh!t hit the fan and people were buying everything possible... did not buy the load assist tool which is my only complaint. but will soon. But I went through a box of blazer bulk with no issues. 500 rounds and not one single issue. Like the 25rnd S&W magazines better, but would buy a couple PT mags again if I had to.

Despite what a couple of folks have intimated, I really am thrilled that PT has gotten its act together and fixed the feeding problems the earlier production had. More options are always better.

Not providing the loading tool, however, needs to change. The darn thing is only a twenty- five cent piece of plastic, if that much.

Agreed! And I wonder how stout that will be? I don't see why they couldn't have taken the existing thumb pull that will allow ease of loading the first 5 or six rounds, down the back of the mag to load the whole thing.

The ones I just ordered from cabelas come with the load tool. Maybe why they are $37

That would appear to be the reason why... they charge $7.99 on their website for their loading tool alone.!!!!!!

I got my two plinker mags from cabelas monday. Used them today for the first time and neither magazine worked. They both jammed. Bent 4 different bullets.

Haven't had any problems with the s&w one that came with the gun. Cabelas will be getting these back. I was really hoping they would work.

Thats too bad. I'll keep playin with mine, but so far they are still fine. About 100 rounds through both. Can't wait to get the loading tool. Thumbs are blisterin up! This does suck!

man I wish I would have seen this earlier. I would have sent you one of the tools that came with mine. They went back to cabelas early this mourning.

I placed an order online with Plinker Tactical. Called them on the phone first to make sure that the mags were in stock. They arrived on my door step 3 days later. They eject from the lower unit fine and the aluminum charging handle fits great. Can't wait to get out and see if they cycle without jamming.

Although i'm gonna get the slide fire and my lgs has quite a few of these mags i'm gonna just hold off on these and just wait for my promags to come in. Hearing alot of negative responses on these plus you gotta get the load assist tool.

Is the load assist an absolute need? Does the uplula work with these mags?

UpLulu does not work with rim fire cartridges, only center fire. At least I've never seen one for .22 LR.

And yes, the assist tool is needed to load a magazine in less than three or four minutes without destroying your thumbs.

I confused the Uplula for 22 pistol mags...they do make one for them( they do make ones for 22LR) but not for the rifle mags

Guess I'll pass on these Plinker mags and make due with my 1 mag until normal prices settle back in.

Have plenty of mags for my Sig 522. Guess that will see the lions share of the range time

Ironically, I tried using the loading tool with my stock mags and it works just as it would with the PT mags. So if you wanna save the dexterity in your thumb and index finger, the load assist tool does double duty with that.

Must be relatively new. Never needed help with .22 pistol mags. Center fire mags are a whole different animal. :)

Another first time poster here...My wife got me the 15-22 as a present and after a couple range sessions I decided that some extra magazines were in order. I searched high and low for them only to find them on ebay at unreasonable prices. I tried to backorder some promags but being from Ohio they may or may not ship to me according to their website (even though rimfire magazines over 30 rounds are lawful here). This led to me purchasing 3 plinker tactical magazines from cabelas last week. I had read all the reviews here and elsewhere concerning these mags and like another poster noticed that the reviews were getting more positive so I thought "why not?"

The magazines arrived as described and included a loading tool. I immediately try to load a mag and found that the follower was kind of sticky and did not move very freely (ie. I used the loading tool and just pushed the follower down and it would stop part way down even with no bullets in the mag!) This wasn't looking good for the home team. However undeterred I continued to load the mag to Max capacity and proceeded to insert in my rifle at the range. As per the instructions I left the bolt held open and used the slide release to load the first round. Well it wouldn't and required a second pull this time just pulling back and letting go.

At this point I really am having doubts about these Mags and I haven't even fired it yet! Well I went ahead and shot a few slow ones and everything was ok so I went ahead and fired off a string rapidly and the mag worked flawlessly.

Before I reloaded I ran the follower up and down the mag using the loading tool several times and found it to no longer have those rough spots it began with. Reloaded and Bam another failure to feed first round. After recharging it again the rest went off without a hitch. After 150-200 rounds these Mag's now feed fine even on the initial charge.

Now admittedly I only tested one magazine but I'd say that I would recommend them-just be aware that there might be some "break-in" at the beginning. Oh and by the way I was shooting cmp surplus Remington full point lead tipped vintage 95.

My dealer just thru in one of these magazines on my purchase of a S&W 15-22 MOE model so I guess I just received some free Junk.

Most of the websites that I have seen say to give the composite mags a few uses to allow the spring to seat. Hopefully they will get better with use...

fyimo,

Not necessarily, your going to have to give it a test drive...unless its an older packed model...they have redone the feed lips...ala... a gen 2 mag... I would try it in your gun...and break it in before I call it junk... and then if it is...send it back to PT... have them send you another... if they get enuff back that have problems..you would think they will get them corrected... we hope... ;0)

It has nothing to do with springs. They are what they are and do not change with a few uses.

The real problem is poor moulding. Rough followers, rough magazine interiors and mis-formed feed lips cause 95 percent of the problems with any polymer magazine, no matter who makes them. PT's quality control seem to be an on-again, off-again deal, much inferior to MagPul (maker of S&W magazines) and ProMag.

If a magazine starts functioning correctly after a couple dozen mag dumps, it's because the mould lines and other burrs have worn down enough to let the follower move more smoothly. Quality products rarely have this problem.
