What / how are y'all carrying J Frames and other guns that size in your front pockets?

I have three "pocket holster" guns I rotate: a Ruger LCR 357 (it is a bit heavy at 19 oz. loaded--so it gets left as much as carried), a Smith Model 360pd 357, and a Taurus TCP 738 380.
I nearly always have one of them with me. I load mostly 38 specials of some sort in the 357s.

I mainly use the Uncle Mike's "0" right hand inside waist band holster and slip the whole thing down into my RH pants pocket. Dress slacks and cargo pants work well. The Uncle Mike's keeps the gun in place, covers the trigger, and there is no printing. And as has been said before I dedicate my RF pocket for "carrying."

Works for me.

What works for you.

Only pocket holster I use for pocket revolvers is my Mika. Which is interesting, because I'm an enormous supporter of Remoras in every other capacity - I just have never found a need to move beyond the Mika.

One thing that is worth noting is that Mika's holsters are a little on the large side. My J-frame holster handled a D-frame just fine, and an LCR as well. I have a friend who bought a Mika for his D-frame, and found it somewhat too large.

Anyway, I've had the Mika for a dozen years or so, and I'm happy with it.

I use a Nemesis for my 49. I bought one for a friend with a LCR 357. I have a hand made leather for my 36 that looks like Snubbyfan's. On a side note, a friend has a LCR38 and 22, they both in my ankle holsters for my 37/36. My nemesis will fit a Colt DS/Cobra also. Ivan

I tried a Mika for my 642, but wasn't impressed (too loose in the holster) and bought a Nemesis. Been happy with it, but now I am currently anxiously awaiting delivery of a snubbyfan pocket holster.

It's all set to go, we'll have it out to ya first thing on Monday morning.
Oh wait, Columbus day.
Ok, we'll have it out to ya first thing Tuesday morning.

I think you're gonna like it.

I would never pocket carry without a holster. Too easy for the gun to shift to the point that getting a grip for a smooth draw would be a problem. I've had guys tell me they reached for a small unholstered gun and found it upside down in the pocket.

There's also the risk of lint and other crud getting into the works.

Depending on the pockets of the pants I'm wearing, I use either a DeSantis Nemesis or an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster. I may be talking to Snubbyfan about a holster, but it'll be a pancake job if I do.

Columbus day?? Shame, shame on you! It's "Native American day" now. (at least in Seattle) Columbus was a facist exploiter. It must be true I heard it on the news.

Nice holster by the way.

An IWB is unnecessarily bulky for pocket carry. A true pocket holster will keep the gun oriented properly and conceal its outlines from casual view.

The best choice for fit and minimum bulk is a custom holster. I have a couple from Ryan Grizzle which are my favorites.

Galco makes and excellent leather holster in various sizes. It's horsehide with the rough side out. The Galco is made from two pieces of leather, like a pancake holster, for best concealment. I picked up one for a Kahr PM45 along the way, but prefer the Grizzle. The Galco is on the large side for a pocket holster.

A DeSantis Nemesis is also an excellent holster. It's a folded design (one piece) so it's not quite as flat as a custom or Galco. However it NEVER comes out of your pocket with the gun. It's slippery tricot on the inside and sticky vinyl on the outside. For twenty bucks or less, you can't go wrong with a Nemesis. I used them until my holsters from Grizzle arrived.

When you shop for pants, make sure you can put your hand in the pockets up past where a watch would be and you can spread your fingers. The "Euro" cuts often skimp on pockets and fit too low on your hips to support the weight of a firearm (if they even have belt loops).

I have a couple pocket holsters but next to never, use them. I sometimes carry a s&w model 40 just loose in my pocket. I have trouble with the holster coming out with the gun. I carried a model 60 with a snubbed hammer for over 30 years just loose in the pocket and it worked well until it was stolen along with my truck.

I have trouble with the holster coming out with the gun.

This never happens with my Galco. The smooth side faces the gun, and the rough side is against the pocket. That is usually enough to make the holster stay put. It also has "hooks" on both sides, so even if it starts to come up with the gun on draw, one of the "hooks" catches one or both edges of the pocket.

Probably against popular opinion- I use a pocket holster that doesn't cover the trigger, but does keep the revolver oriented the right way. I like the option of firing through the pocket, should the need arise.

J-frame (351PD) in RF pants pocket in an interim, cheapo Blackhawk ambidextrous nylon job, but my order of a snubbyfan leather pocket holster has entered the production cycle at the West Virginia plant. ;)

They operate there on the JIT manufacturing concept, you know: Just In-jun Time. :D

My M38 or 442 is carried daily in a Galco rough horsehide in my L/F pocket (I'm a leftie).

Mika for my 642.

It's true the Mikas are not snug to the gun. I don't want snug to the gun. Want the holster to stay put in the pocket when drawing, not pulled out with the gun.

Been using Mika holsters for both my J Frames and an LCP for several years. Very happy with them and Bob is a great guy to work with. A real gentleman.

Now that you brought it up... Yes, Bob is a nice guy. After I placed my order I got a call from him. I didn't need anything, but he wanted to let me know that he got the order and then continued to tell me all about his holsters for about 10min. I just listened and he kept talking. He seems to enjoy what he does and takes pride in his work and products.

an uncle mike's #3 pocket holster for J frame snubs have worked well for me....
+1 . . . except the larger #4 works better for me. Because some of my shorts seem to have shallow pockets, I have also removed a few stitches from the seam near the end of the barrel of my 642-1 to let the revolver sit a little lower in the holster/pocket combination.

That extra eighth of an inch of insertion makes pocket carry concealment easier for me. Despite the open seam, pocket lint does not seem to be a problem. YMMV
