Greetings, All,

I have been trying to find the "perfect" pocket holster for my 642. I first tried an El Cheapo from, I think, Action-Tec. Too loose, and didn't keep the pistol in the same location all the time. Next, I tried a Bianchi pocket holster, which I liked MUCH better. However, it seemed to allow the butt on my 642 to lean backwards a bit too much, canting in such a way as to print on my jeans. Worked best in pants like Dockers, or dress pants, and less good in my blue jeans. Now, I've trying a Desantis Nemesis, which I like even better. It doesn't hold the gun quite a tightly as the Bianchi, but the cant is less pronounced, and it seems to print less in my jeans pocket. However, it still does print, some, and I wonder if there is anything else out there that is easy to use, comfortable, and doesn't print, at all? Any ideas? I keep thinking, due to my size (5 8" 165lbs) that I should carry a smaller pistol in my pocket. But, I love the 642, and really hate to carry anything smaller as my BUG. Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer. I would really appreciate hearing from guys about my size, as I know the bigger Gentlemen will have less problems in keeping a 642 hidden away. Thanks, and God Bless!

Check out the work of Robert Mika. He makes fantastic pocket holster.
Mika's Pocket Holsters - Custom Made Pocket Holsters, Waistband Holsters, Vest Holsters, Tactical Pocket Mirrors And Much More.

I also like the Safariland pocket holster. I currently use one for my 642. Here is one:
Safariland 25 Inside-the-Pocket Holster for Revolvers - Plain Black, Right Hand 25-01-21. 25-01-21. Safariland Model 25 Holsters, Safariland Holsters.

These both are fine pocket holsters that I have used or touched and they are highly recommended.

Do not be too concerned about printing. I am not a massive guy either, and my 642 shows a little in the pocket. However, most people will not notice and if they do they would never think that you have a fine defensive revolver in there. Do not draw attention to it, do not tap it or shift it and you will be fine. Pocket carry is about as deep concealment as you can get. I have been pocket carrying for a few years now and not once has it been "spotted."

Desantis Nemesis. Top notch and inexpensive. I know you said you tried it, but I've found nothing that beats it. And Steve is right. if you keep your hands away from it the likelihood of it being noticed is slim. I know so many guys who are constantly petting their concealed weapon so much that they might as well be wearing a sign that says "I'm carrying a gun!"

Good Morning, Gentlemen,

Many thanks for your suggestions, and I will check out each one and see how they look to me. I do think that the Nemesis is probably going to work about as well as must anything else out there, but I'm still curious to find a holster that pull the butt of the pistol into my body a bit more. The Mika is one I've thought about before. But, I've been told it's a bit bulky. Is that right? Slimmer is better, for me, at least. Still, I might give one a try. Until you actually try such a thing for yourself, you really don't know. Thanks, again, Guys. Much appreciated. Take care, Merry Christmas, and God Bless!

Uncle Mike's

I have used an Uncle Mike's for over a year - anytime I pocket carry. No problems at all so far and if it ever does "wear out" (for instance, wear to the place where the holster comes out with the gun), I'll probably just buy another Uncle Mike's. They are cheap, but serviceable.

Desantis Superfly

I have had a grip screw and thumbpiece rust inside my pocket before. To prevent this, I now use a Superfly. I reverse the flap so that it becomes a sweatshield for my 642.

Aholster Welcome to Aholster makes a great Kydex pocket holster. I have three. I had never heard of them until I won one of their holsters in an Ebay auction. I tracked them down after that and ordered two more. It is thin, contoured to the gun, and has projections to snag your pocket so that you draw your gun and not the holster and gun. The Nemesis and UM sometimes come out with your pistol. The Kydex has the advantage of not holding moisture like a fabric or leather holster will. It also does not collect grit as easily to abrade the finish on your pistol. If you buy an UM go with a size #4 instead of the factory recommended #3. The #4 a J-frame fits much better.

Best Regards,

I used the Uncle Mike's for years until I got a Mika.
The Mika takes a few days to break in around the gun,
but in my opinion, nothing is better in the pocket.

Is the recent Nemesis for the j frame different than it used to be? The reason i ask is, it seems that the one made a few years ago, was made to fit some semi-autos also, but I think the new one is definately shaped like a revolver.

Greetings, Shooter7,

My Nemesis is shaped to fit a revolver, and would not work with most semi-autos. Mine is the only one I've ever seen "in the flesh", so I don't know what the other one looks like. Take care, and God Bless!

Hi,
I have the Nemesis and recently switched over to the Mika round-cut for my 642 pocket carry...
I love it!!!
The Nemesis works well...However, "for me", I find the Mika works even better for my body build (5'7" 160) and usually wearing Jeans.
I find the Mika keeps the revolver straight-up towards the rear of the pocket...it's also narrower than the Nemesis, so for me prints less. The revolver draws flawlessly and the holster stays in the pocket.
In addition, Mr Robert Mika's customer sevice is second to none!!!
You can see pics and info in this thread;

Hope this Helps!

***Note, if you follow the above link and scroll down to where I posted the pics, You can see both Holsters together in the 3rd link...

+1! I've been carrying my M&P340 in an UM#4 for years: functional and cost effective.

The Mikas is an excellent holster but was a little bulky for me personally.

The Desantis Nemesis is about as good as it gets for a J Frame in the pocket. It is cheap and effective. The Uncle Mike's Sidekick is decent but in my experience does not stay in the pocket as well when you draw the gun as the Nemesis does.

One more vote here for the Desantis Nemesis. I have it for my 442 and for my Kahr PM9. Uncle Mike's is a serviceable backup.

I've tried the Nemesis, UM #3, and the Mika for my 642- of the three, I prefer the UM#3. Has anybody tried the Tuff Products Pocket-Roo? It has provision for a 5 shot Quick-Strip too. It got an excellent write-up from Stephen Camp Tuff Products

I carry a 640 in a Kramer pocket holster all day, every day. It has a piece of material over the front of the holster to minimize printing. It works. I wear Docker type pants at work and it fits in there fine and you can draw easily. I am not sure their is any good way to pocket carry in the front pocket of jeans. At least any jeans I have ever worn.
