...from a German U-Boat...1943...

I remember seeing that picture in a book about various u-boat operations. Apparently food was crammed just about anywhere on the boat it could be put. Fresh meat would most certainly have been welcomed. Sincerely. bruce.
IIRC polar bear liver is toxic (due high vitamin A levels)Don
I wonder if the guy on the left with the Schmeisser submachinegun is the one who killed the bear. We've had two or three ...hundred threads on what kind of gun to use for bear, I suppose the Schmeisser would be O.K at stopping a charging polar bear.
Good eating luck to that sub crew. Anyone who has tried bear meat knows what I'm talking about!

It is good, isn't it.However, like pork, it must be cooked well done because of parasites.

Cannot speak to the quality of Polar Bear flesh or Grizzly.
Black bear however, is fairly tasty when done right.
I have had steaks, burgers and ham from black bears harvested in the spring. All was very good.
I have tried twice to eat bear that was harvested in the fall. Both times it was very nasty tasting.
