Bear in the house? Meh. Get a Pomeranian.

We had an off-grid place in interior British Columbia for 20 years that we sold it in 2022. When we built it all of the exterior doors were in-swing with lever door handles. We very quickly realized the ease with which a bear could open a door and changed the outside of the mechanism to knobs.
My neighbour up the road forgot to lock her truck and went out to find that a bear had deftly lifted the door latch and helped itself to a bag of grain for her chickens that she had left inside. Other than grain everywhere there was no damage, unlike people who have had a bear get trapped inside and trashed the vehicle.

I think many of us underestimate the intelligence of 4-footed creatures. My buddy has a Blue Heeler. That dog is smart, and clever. Kevin says "load up." Tyson runs over to the truck, tugs on the door handle, muzzles to door open and hops in. Tyson takes his position in the passenger seat and waits for Kevin to arrive. I'm sure Tyson lets Kevin "think" he's the boss. Ever been herded by a dog? Meet Tyson.
