Police Department Guns ?

As long as we're on this subject, is the Rhode Island State Police Model 10 worth a premium over a 6" standard barrel M10. There were only a few of them, but does that matter?

Here again it becomes the question of Apples and Oranges. RISP gun would probably be worth more to a "Collector" of LE weapons but the 6" M-10 might be of more value to a "Collector" of Model 10s. Now if you're talking about a "Collector" of Model 10s who finds a RISP with a 6" barrel then what does he do??? Does he 'collect' it as a Police gun or as a Model 10??? Now face the LE weapons "Collector" who finds the same Model 10???

A 6" Model 45 would be of more interest to me than either one, but then I "Collect" .22s and Police guns(a Collection of 2 after ONLY 40 Years). A Model 45 could be both.

The real answer is still YES and NO depending upon just what firearm and to whom you are talking at the time.

Regarding the New York Police Target Gun, is this an adjustable-sighted gun ?
I assume that the sights are not adjustable ?

I'm aware of a Police Target, in which the forged front sight blade is
ground flat - by the factory. I'm also aware of New Service Sights, in which
the word Patridge appears, but it is not the Patridge configuration. Rather,
the fixed rear sight notch has been squared up. As near as I can tell, this
is from about 1922.

Here is a well-used old cop gun:

One of the NRM's shipped to the Wichita, KS PD in Dec, 1940- the LAST order for pre-war mags shipped. It is not marked for the PD.
Is it more valuable? To a condition collector, NO- it is not even considerable for him.
For a general mag collector, MAYBE.
For a cop gun collector, PROBABLY.
It is all subjective.

Well after almost 30 days the gun arrived. It is an M&P model of 1905 4th change. I tried to give it a little dignity and put a set of service stocks on it but am not sure if they are correct Vintage. Serial # is 504205 Has the sweetest shortest Double action stroke of all the M&P's I own.

I Like it.
That era would be the convex non-medallion grips.

Lee,
As far as I know, this one DID NOT take out the Texas Tower shooter!
Good, informative thread.

Lee,
Ranger Ray tells me he doesn't remember his gun's rack number, but my bald-faced guess is that someday his gun will emerge from his estate, and then we'll see what an EXPENSIVE APD 38/44 sells for!

THAT is interesting.....you really think he has it?

Guys I have always felt that way too. I cannot believe that he left APD and just turned that gun in and walked out. Come on. Plus he dosen't remember the rack number??

Not breaking on him at all. But from what I have read/heard he was issued this gun in the academy. Then carried it for years. Then kills one of the most infamous people in TX if not US history.

To top it off there are no APD reports on the shooting? Nothing that records the gun and serial number?

When I was collecting HD's I had a bunch of photos of APD guys with HD's. They were proud of them. They published a year book with crime stats, etc every year. Numbers on how many dog barking calls they went on. I'm serious actually listed them. So they don't record the rack/serial number of the gun that Ranger Ray carried that day?

Don't wash. I agree with Don. The gun will surface. If some of our members on here don't know about it already.
