Polishing a 686-4 6"?

I have gone ahead and polished my 686-4 with some Flitz and a lot of hand polishing. I left the detents in the cylinders matte, just because it looks better to me that way. This gun is one of the best looking revolvers I've ever seen. The Colts are really nice blued, but this gun is exceptionally designed as far as function and form are concerned.

Totally agree. I have yet to see a revolver I like as much as the 686.

My 6" M-686 is the most accurate gun I own.
It has a High Patridge front sight, a Millet rear sight and a smooth Target Trigger and the smoothest and lightest trigger pull too.

I clean mine with a Birchwood Casey lead removal cloth followed with Flitz and finished off with a nice light coat of Renaissance Wax and buff it with a nice Flitz microfiber cloth.

I think it is a great looking pistol.



When I take it to the range I remove the Target Stocks that it was shipped with and replace them with the Hogue Monogrips that it came with.

Wow! That looks amazing. Makes me want to polish my 648. And with all this time stuck at home I think I will. Did you just apply and remove polish or did you do anything more intensive like sanding or something?

All you have to do is put it on by hand, put some elbow grease in to it, and buff it off. Many types of products that you can get at an auto supply store or "Choke, Choke" Wal Mart. Mothers is good Blue Magic is good and many other products will do the same thing.
