Poll..."Is a 3 inch revolver barrel a snubnose?"

To a guy who's 6'9" 350 lbs. a 6" 686 could be a snub, on the other hand to a guy who's 5'2" 110 lbs. a 3" M10 would be a holster gun:) Back in the "day" when a 6" M&P/Model 10 or Model 28 was the ideal police duty gun, a 4" K-frame may have seemed short to some.

I'm 6'5" 180 (i.e. beanpole) so a 4" fixed sight revolver like one of my 10's or 64's is perfect for me as a CC gun with an IWB or a pancake holster. I don't see a need for a 3" or even a 2" for CC, but I still think snubs are cool and I have a 1 7/8" 60 for deep concealment.

Most revolver aficionados would probably say a "snub" is 2" or less. A 3" is just a short barreled revolver.

The answer is number 2. Is brunch really breakfast? No it is not. It's brunch. Maybe a new name for 3 inchers is in order.;) I go with "snurves" or "snurvies". A combination of "snub" and "service".

"Excuse me Sir. Do you make an IWB holster for snurvnose revolvers?"

I really think a 3 inch revolver is a "kit gun" rather than a snubnosed. I really don't know why but 3 inch is what comes up as a picture in my head when I hear "kit gun" or "tackle box gun". "truck gun" I see 4inch. All revolvers ofcourse. IMHO as always.

No. 2

No matter the frame size, any barrel length longer than two inches is not a snub.

Strange that you ask since I've been going to my local haunts looking for a snub-nose in a 2". I snubbed any 3" revolvers, pardon the pun...

Funny, I went the opposite. It took me a while to track down a 3" M37 in a price range I was willing to spend. For me the difference in carryability of a 3 vs a 2 is minimal, but hitablity is major.

I'm liking "snurve"!!

"As Special Investigator Mike Radigan entered the coal-dark warehouse his skin crawled up his back at his realization that there was one, and possibly more, people inside who wanted to fill his suit-coat with lead holes. But he reached into his waistband and quietly withdrew his 'snurvenose' .357 revolver with a knowing smile that he was ready for them to start the ball rolling".

"That's a 'snurevy' lookin' sixgun ya got there Bub." said a concerned Williams as he stared down the bore of Pettinger's .357 revolver.

2. I have a Model 60 3" and it is definitely not a snub-nose. In fact it isn't even a snug-nose. Maybe a schlub-nose. I lub dose a lot.

Hey, Badkarma, you should check out the cargo pants at Cabellas. I have a 3" 36 and it fits easily into the front pocket of mine. Does that make it a snub? Dunno, I just think of it as a little gun that fits into my pants pocket. And, no, no one has asked me if I'm just glad to see them.

3 of my 3" N frame snubs

What I consider N frame snubs, but if I am wrong, who really cares.....?

After reading all of the posts and various opinions, I'll offer a wrinkle to the barrel length conundrum. I just picked up a 66-5 with a 3 1/4 inch barrel for CC. It shoots far better than I do, has the smoothest action of any handgun I own and even fits in my jeans rear pocket with just the tip of the butt exposed. I don't consider it a snubbie but rather a tool that fits my needs.

No.

Colt began its production in 1927 and the famous Detective Special was the first revolver to be coined "snub-nosed."

With it as the benchmark for all those to follow, a 3" revolver doesn't fit the bill.
